Taking Steps toward Sustainability
We’re committed to sourcing responsibly, with your well-being and the integrity of our ingredients—sustainably farmed fish, organic local produce—top of mind. Thoughtful investment in packaging means that our fully recyclable bags and rPET containers (significantly more sustainable than their compostable counterparts) go on to live another day (and another, and another, and another…) after you’re done with them.
The goop Kitchen Inside-Out
Approach to Sustainability
We’ve been led to believe that if it looks like cardboard, it must be the environmentally responsible choice. The same can be said of food: If it tastes like greens—and not much else—it must be healthy. In reality, many of the conventional molded-fiber containers used as packaging require industrial composting facilities or end up in landfills, and food doesn’t have to taste like, well…the aforementioned cardboard to be good for you. All food, clean or otherwise, should be enjoyable; what matters is the integrity of the ingredients and where they come from. As for packaging, it’s where it’s going that ultimately earns sustainability points.
Inside: Ingredients and Sourcing
Our sauces and marinades labeled GCC meet the goop Certified Clean standard: no processed sugars, processed foods, gluten, dairy, peanuts, or preservatives.
Our Mary’s free-range chicken comes from Pitman Family Farms.
Our salmon comes from the fjords of Norway and is Best Aquaculture Practices–, Global G.A.P.–, and ASC–certified.
Our produce and greens are sourced organic and locally whenever possible.
Outside: Packaging
Our bags are 100 percent recyclable thanks to woven-paper rope handles and a collapsible paper body.
Our bowl and salad containers are made using recycled polyethylene terephthalate (rPET). Each rPET container saves between 3 and 3½ recycled plastic bottles and can be recycled over and over again.
Projections suggest that over the course of a year, the containers from a single goop Kitchen restaurant can potentially save over 25,000 pounds of plastic from landfills and over 35,000 pounds of CO2 from the atmosphere.
