Milk Pail Fresh Market

Water Mill, The Hamptons, New York

why we love it

Located on the side of the highway in Water Mill, this seasonal Milk Pail farmstand (open Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day Weekend) is the more traditional, low-key counterpart to their year-round Fresh Market on Montauk Highway. It's an under-the-tent setup offering all the same goodies in a classic outdoor farmstand format.

Sant Ambroeus

Sant Ambroeus

30 Main St., Southampton
Sun-Thurs: 9am-10pm
Fri-Sat: 9am-11pm

Sant Ambroeus’ original Hamptons outpost is in Southampton, where it's been a fixture for years. It's really two spots in one: there's the take-out cafe and gelato counter, sandwiches, pastries, coffee, and ice cream to go, with a few tables spilling onto the street as soon as you walk in, and the restaurant tucked toward the back, with both indoor and outdoor seating. Whichever you choose, you can't go wrong.

Tutto Il Giorno

Tutto Il Giorno

56 Nugent St., Southampton
Mon-Fri: 5pm-10pm
Sat-Sun: 12pm-3pm, 5pm-10pm

Founded by Gabby Karan De Felice and her husband Gianpaolo, Tutto Il Giorno is a southern Italian restaurant in Southampton village that has become a true Hamptons staple. Sit outside in the garden, under the twinkle lights, and don’t miss the Pane Carasau (crisp Sardinian flatbread with rosemary and flaky salt). Open for dinner nightly and for lunch on weekends.

Dopo Argento

Dopo Argento

15 Main St., Southampton
Wed-Fri: 5pm-9pm
Sat:12pm-10pm
Sun: 12pm-9pm

A classic Italian spot right on Main Street in the heart of Southampton, Dopo Argento is the kind of place that works for almost any occasion. Open for both lunch and dinner, it offers great people-watching (tables spill out along the sidewalk) and the menu is just as easy for kids as it is for adults.

Suki Zuki

Suki Zuki

688 Montauk Hwy., Water Mill
Thurs-Tues: 5:30pm-9:30pm

Tucked just off Water Mill's tiny stretch of town, Suki Zuki has been serving some of the best sushi in the Hamptons for years. It's no-frills and entirely unchanged, exactly the way the regulars want it. Our picks: the Chicken Teriyaki Salad and the "Tuna Sandwich." A note: be prepared to wait for a table on Friday and Saturday nights, it gets busy.

BuddhaBerry Southampton

BuddhaBerry Southampton

30 Hampton Rd., Southampton
Mon: 2pm-9pm
Tues-Thurs: CLOSED
Fri: 2pm-9pm
Sat-Sun: 12pm-9pm

The most famous fro-yo in the Hamptons, with a long lineup of flavors, mix-ins, and toppings galore. BuddhaBerry made its name at the original Sag Harbor shop, and the Southampton location (which opened a few years ago) has quickly become a staple in its own right, the place to go on a hot afternoon or after dinner when you need a sweet treat.

Red Horse Market Southampton

Red Horse Market Southampton

120 N. Sea Rd., Southampton
Mon-Fri: 7am-5:30pm
Sat: 7am-7pm
Sun: 7am-6pm

Best known for its East Hampton flagship, Red Horse Market has a second location in Southampton that's just as worth knowing. The gourmet grocery is known for its premium meats, Montauk-caught seafood, well-edited pantry staples, and excellent prepared foods, a true one-stop shop for anything you might need in the kitchen. The space itself is unassuming, but everything in it is top-of-the-line.

El Farm Market

El Farm Market

101 Jobs Ln., Southampton
Mon-Sun: 9am-6pm

El Farm turns locally sourced ingredients into prepared foods with a Latin twist: think roasted tomato salsa and dips that travel perfectly to a beach picnic or dinner at home. The menu also runs through tacos, gourmet sandwiches, and a rhubarb-berry pie that's worth the detour alone.

The Golden Pear Southampton

The Golden Pear Southampton

99 Main St., Southampton
Mon-Sat: 6:30am-5:00pm
Sun: 6:30am-4:30pm

The most famous and most frequented of Golden Pear's several Hamptons locations sits on the corner of Main Street in Southampton, where it's been forever. It's the go-to for coffee, iced drinks, and quick grab-and-go bites, nothing fancy, just a deeply ingrained part of town. Expect to see people and tables spilling onto the sidewalk, waiting for orders or settling in with them.

The Juice Press

The Juice Press

93 Main St., Southampton
Mon-Sun: 8am-6pm

Known for its many NYC locations, Juice Press has a tiny outpost tucked onto Main Street for pre-made juices and smoothies (with custom blends made to order), plus prepared foods and soups. Perfect for stocking the fridge for the week, or for a quick post-workout grab.

Topiaire Candy Shop

Topiaire Candy Shop

51-A Jobs Ln., Southampton
Mon-Sat: 9:30am-5:30pm

Tucked behind the Topiaire Flower Shop, this charming, old-fashioned candy shop is brimming with giant glass jars of penny-candy-style sweets, from oversized swirled lollipops to neon gummies to warm caramels. It's a great spot to pick up a gift for the friend with a sweet tooth (they also do curated boxes for special occasions or a fun movie night).

Cheese Shoppe

Cheese Shoppe

11 Main St., Southampton
Sun-Thurs: 8:30am-3pm
Fri-Sat: 8:30-3:30pm

Don't be misled by the name: the Southampton Cheese Shoppe is best known for its pressed paninis, salads, açaí bowls, and soups. That said, the cheese counter is very much real: a thoughtfully curated selection of wedges along with ready-made cheese and charcuterie platters that cover any last-minute hostess or beach picnic emergency. A heads-up: the staff isn't exactly warm and fuzzy, and they're strict about pickup times, so order ahead (it takes a minute) and show up when they tell you to.

Goldberg’s Water Mill

Goldberg’s Water Mill

760 Montauk Hwy. Bldg #3, Water Mill
Mon-Fri: 6am-7pm
Sat-Sun: 6am-5pm

Goldberg’s is home to the most famous bagels in the Hamptons, no question. The Water Mill outpost is one of its larger locations, with plenty of outdoor seating, plus ice cream, baked goods, and brick-oven pizza alongside the bagel menu. That said, it's not really a sit-down kind of place; it's a takeout spot at heart, the kind you grab from on your way home to feed a hungry house. New this season, and perhaps the most over-the-top Hamptons offering yet: caviar, ready to be piled onto your bagel. Yes, really.

Green Thumb

Green Thumb is the perfect stop when you're cooking at home, and it's an unmistakably hippie kind of place, no frills whatsoever.

Farm and Forage

Farm and Forage

36 Hampton Rd., Southampton
Wed-Sun: 9am-6pm
Mon: 10am-4pm
Tues: Closed

When you're hunting for a hard-to-find ingredient, Farm & Forage probably has it. Every item on the shelves is seed-oil-free, and the curation is genuinely niche, the kind of edit that earns the "best of the best" label. The shop carries its own exclusive in-house caviar brand and caters to the most discerning customer, whether you're after the best local produce or their top-tier prepared foods (which the New York Times and New York Magazine have both compared to the iconic Round Swamp).

Milk Pail Farmstand

The Fudge Company

The Fudge Company

67 Main St., Southampton

A longtime Southampton staple for fudge, ice cream, taffy, and every other kind of old-school sweet. The place has remained completely unchanged over the years, and it's better for it. Don't come here looking for clean or organic; come for the kind of candy-shop nostalgia that's a classic for a reason.

Tate's Bake Shop

Tate's Bake Shop

43 N. Sea Rd., Southampton
Mon-Sun: 7am-3pm

Tate's may be known worldwide for its iconic crispy chocolate chip cookies, but don't be fooled into thinking the Southampton shop is where they're baked from scratch. This is the place to come for everything else: the coffee cake muffins (truly, WOW), pies, brownies, breads, and beyond.

The Hamptons are a cornerstone of Ralph Lauren's identity, and the Southampton store is a classic one-stop shop for all things Ralph Americana. It carries the full spread: Purple Label, Collection, Polo, the women's, men's, and home lines, plus antiques, vintage, fine watches, and jewelry. If you're scrambling for something to wear to a last-minute clambake or dinner party, or you've realized it's chillier than you thought, this is where you go to both blend in and stand out the way the locals do.

Elyse Walker Southampton

Elyse Walker Southampton

It's a true Southampton staple and the first place locals go for anything home.

AERIN Southampton

AERIN Southampton
