Everything You Need to Host a Galentine’s Day Party

Coined by fictitious local politician Leslie Knope on NBC’s Parks and Recreation, “Galentine’s Day” is definitely worth celebrating: On February 13th, we plan to honor and celebrate our gals (or if your bestie happens to be a guy, bring him too—the more the merrier!) The power of these platonic relationships is no joke, it should be noted: NYT contributor Rebecca Traister’s 2016 article, “What Women Find in Friends That They May Not Get From Love” sheds light on the unique and irreplaceable bond that women forge with one another.

Traister observed that there are no official ceremonies that recognize these important, life-affirming, often lifelong relationships; enter Leslie Knope’s brilliant brainchild. This Galentine’s Day, grab the Thelma to your Louise, the Laverne to your Shirley, and the Elijah to your Hannah and treat yourselves to blush-colored “bloodhounds,” decadent lasagna, and the most adorable ice-cream sandwiches on earth. Along with the recipes, we’ve compiled a list of our favorite BFF-centric flicks, along with a few excellent parting gifts to show some love to your true ride-or-dies.

The Galentine's Day Menu

Do yourself a favor and make this lasagna! To be clear, it’s no small feat, but it’s well worth the effort—and a lot can be done in advance so that day-of, all you have to do is assemble and bake. You and your guests will be super satisfied with this rich, comforting dish, so all you’ll need is a green salad to round out your meal.

Our twist on a classic Greyhound, this pretty pink cocktail is the perfect way to start your Galentine’s party. And because no one wants to be squeezing grapefruits to order, this one can be made in advance and easily doubled.

These addictive gluten-free ice cream sandwiches are bomb. A little sweet, a little salty, and wonderfully reminiscent of an Oreo cookie, we plan on always having a batch in the freezer.

Galentine’s Day Party Essentials

Recommendations for Galentine’s movie night was a hotly debated topic here at goop HQ, so this list is by no means exhaustive, but, rosé in a can, Compartés popcorn chocolates, and our new bath soaks as party favors, were unanimous crowd favorites for a night-in with your best pals.
