Introducing The Find: Gwyneth’s Curation of One-of-a-Kind Jewelry and Objets

Written by:Mason Lane RudnickPublished on:

Gwyneth has always been fascinated by vintage jewelry—starting with a ring her grandmother wore in the late ‘70s and the history steeped in Victorian cameos. But it was while living in the UK, surrounded by the glass cases at Hancocks in Mayfair and the basement stalls at Grays, that her obsession with collecting really began. “I love seeing different zeitgeists, times, and cultures come to life through a piece of jewelry, or a beautiful ceramic bowl,” she says.

That laid the foundation for The Find: goop's newly launched curation of unique pieces—some vintage, some one-of-a-kind—sourced from truly exceptional and highly renowned vendors and galleries we’ve spent years getting to know, spanning jewelry, homeware, and accessories.

I think we have a really cool collection of vendors, and ones that are discoverable—not everybody's heard of them. —Gwyneth

Curation has always been at the heart of goop. Long before we launched our own brands, we were in the business of sharing our finds—whether in our stores or in the newsletter Gwyneth started in 2008. The Find takes that ethos one step further: nothing new, nothing seasonal, and nothing we can simply reorder.

Gwyneth lives for the hunt, and The Find is where she shares the truly special items you can’t find anywhere else—the pieces she’d select for her own home or give to someone she loves. “Honestly, I kind of built the page for myself,” she says.

We sat down with Gwyneth to talk about her history of collecting, the vendors behind The Find, and what draws her to vintage.

You're such a big jewelry collector yourself. How does that shape The Find—what will people see of your taste in it?

“A lot of curators are very much of one period; I love to go across different eras and centuries. The '70s have some of my favorite pieces—I remember my grandmother having this really cool architectural ring that she gave to my cousin, and every time I see it, I just think it's the chicest thing. What you'll find are the pieces that are interesting to me and inspiring me most.”

What draws you to vintage pieces and heirlooms? Is it the history, the story behind them?

“Pieces hold energy. Metal holds energy, stone holds energy. And that’s what an heirloom is, in a way—something you wear close to your heart, something that’s important to you. You’re imbuing a physical object with emotion and then passing it along to the next person.”

Are there vendors on The Find you’ve been sourcing from for years?

“For sure. I love Hôtel Silver, and I collect it for my house. Same with Galerie Provenance—she makes such amazing selections, always from an important potter of the period. Fred Leighton I’ve worn forever. Some of the first vintage jewelry I collected in my twenties came from there, and so have some of the pieces I’ve worn on the red carpet. [Most notably at the 2007 Academy Awards, where she wore a peach Zac Posen gown with rose-cut diamond chandelier earrings and an architectural Art Deco diamond cuff bracelet.]

And FD Gallery is one of my absolute favorites. I've bought so many beautiful things from them: a thick men's vintage French gold chain I wear all the time, and a great ring.”
