We’re denim girls at goop, perpetually on the hunt for the Next Great Pair. And while vintage 501s will always have a place in our wardrobes, there are so many brands that do denim really well. We source many of them for our style shop—and here, we’ve highlighted the five silhouettes they all seem to agree will be big for spring.

The Classic Straight-Leg

A straight-leg jean is typically fitted at the waist and has a consistent width from the thigh to the ankle opening, which creates this nice, clean line on the body. Timeless and flattering, they’re the one style we can confidently recommend to everyone.

Styling tip: Pair them with a low, pointed-toe heel to extend the line even further.

The Baggy Straight-Leg

Cut a bit more generously than a classic straight-leg, a baggy straight-leg has extra room through the seat and thigh, giving the impression that you might’ve accidentally grabbed your SO’s jeans while getting dressed instead of your own.

Styling tip: You have two options here. You can either offset the slouch by wearing something slim up top, like a close-fitting tee, or lean into the boyish vibe with something more relaxed. (Both look cool.)

The Wide-Leg

The wide-leg jeans we like best have a hugs-you-in high rise, a fitted top block, and generously cut legs with a hem circumference of 20 inches or more. Tick these three boxes and your legs are bound to look miles long.

Styling tip: These are most flattering when you can see what’s going on at the waist, so pick a shirt that you can tuck in neatly and fully with minimal bunching—say, a thin, crisp button-up.

The Barrel-Leg

This sculptural style has a nipped waist and a curved leg that tapers in at the ankle, creating artful-looking volume. It’s not for everyone, but it’s a nice way to get outside of your comfort zone if you’re a one-silhouette woman looking for a change.

Styling tip: The outward curve of these lowers your visual median, meaning you’ll either want to ground things with a substantial shoe or offset that difference with a heel.

The Double Denim

If experimenting with a new silhouette feels more daunting than exciting, don’t try to force it. Instead, put those funds toward a new chambray shirt or denim jacket to throw on with all the jeans you already have and love.

Styling tip: While this is not an imperative, we love when the wash of the top matches the wash of the bottoms so closely, people might wonder whether you bought them as a set. If you can’t swing the monochrome look with your current stack, no worries—the colorblocked approach is just as cute.
