Memorial Day is done and dusted, which means that we now have two feet firmly planted in the most carefree season. And sartorially, there’s no piece that embodies the spirit of summer better than a sundress. It’s light, it’s breezy, it’s pretty. It’s an instant mood-shift in dress form. Here, five of our current favorites.
Romantic
We had to start with Dôen here. No one does dreamy, nostalgia-infused romance quite as well. Take this snow-white dress: It has a wide scooped neck that ties above a sweet keyhole. Puffed cap sleeves. A gathered bust and smocked waist. And a full, flowy skirt. Done in light, airy cotton poplin, it’s heaven on a steamy-hot day.
Preppy
With its square neck, fitted bodice, and flared skirt, this cotton dress is so flattering. But what you'll love most is the grass-green gingham print: It's embellished with delicate embroidery—a subtle textural detail that elevates the design just a touch.
Beachy
Done in a midweight cotton, this dress is all ease. It has the skinniest of straps, a V-neck, and a gathered bust. It nips in at the waist before flaring out into a swishy, ankle-grazing skirt. In pale-blue-and-white stripes, it's exactly what we want to be wearing for barefoot strolls on the sand, sunset cocktails overlooking the sea, and all other shoreline-themed endeavors.
Retro
Here, another pretty, quintessential Dôen piece. Done in a blue-and-white plaid, this dress feels like a vintage find. It has a scooped neck, gently puffed sleeves, and a full tiered skirt. Delicate mother-of-pearl buttons trail down the front: You can do them all up or leave a few unbuttoned at the bottom—it's lovely either way.
