This dairy-free treat from food stylist and recipe developer Susie Theodorou is simple, satisfying, and just what we want on a hot summer’s day.

Tip

Look for shredded halva, a cotton-candy-like confection, under its Turkish name, pismaniye.

Ingredients

8 slices frozen banana

1 cup (250 milliliters) oat or cashew milk

2 pitted medjool dates

6 to 8 ice cubes

2 tablespoons tahini paste

date syrup to taste

small bundle shredded halva

Directions

1. Add 8 slices of frozen banana, 1 cup (250 milliliters) oat or cashew milk, 2 pitted medjool dates, 6 to 8 ice cubes, and 2 tablespoons tahini paste (mixed well in the jar before it's scooped out) to a Vitamix or blender. Whizz everything together until smooth. Take 2 tall glasses and drizzle spirals inside the glasses with date syrup and quickly pour in the shake. Top with a small bundle of shredded halva, pulling the shreds apart slightly, then drizzle with a little more date syrup.
