How Gwyneth Got Ready for the Oscars

Written by:Aura DaviesPublished on:

“People might be surprised by how much I don't like getting ready,” Gwyneth says. “Some people find it glamorous and relaxing, but for me it definitely feels like I'm going to work.” So we figured, since it already feels like work for her...why not double down—and, you know, bring a camera crew. Lucky for us, she's a good sport.

Some of the behind-the-scenes scoop might not surprise you. Her makeup artist, Georgie Eisdell, prepped her skin with facial massage, a LYMA Laser, and a lot of goop beauty—including the face oil, lip mask, and peptide cream and serum. The serum is a particular favorite because of the way it doubles as a primer: “I’ve been using the peptide on all my customers," Eisdell said. “They love it. It helps the makeup last longer.”

Gwyneth’s own approach is, characteristically, wellness-focused—hence the IV drip in her arm (a Myers’ cocktail) as she sat calmly with her eye masks firmly in place and the team buzzing around her. Other moments were more unexpected, like when Gwyneth realized, mid-IV, that she'd be sewn into her dress, so a bathroom break was off the table for the evening. Or when stylist Elizabeth Saltzman vetoed Gwyneth’s lunch. (In Saltzman’s defense: Said lunch was a goop kitchen bento box, which includes teriyaki-glazed salmon, carrot-ginger vinaigrette, and colorful dipping sauces—and Gwyneth was already dressed in her snow-white Armani Privé gown.)

At the end of the day, there were just two items left on the punch list before she was red-carpet-bound: Making sure that the bento box made it into the car with her (for the ride home, obviously). And making sure that Saltzman sent along a video of how to unlock the Tiffany & Co. choker so that Gwyneth didn't have to sleep in it.
