#metkids: Behind-the-Scenes at the Met Museum

A visit to the Met is the ultimate rainy day activity for kids, but it can be an overwhelming—and crowded—experience. Enter #metkids, the museum’s new kid-friendly digital home and an insanely useful tool for navigating little ones through the endless collection. The map on the homepage (illustrated Where’s Waldo-style) offers ideas to explore different parts of the museum and what they might find in each gallery. You can also search through the time machine, which scans the collection by time period, geography, and big ideas like inventions, mythology, battles, fashion, and even secrets. Each search leads to pared-down descriptions of the objects with an audio narrative and suggestions for questions to ask and activities to try. The featured videos of kids asking curators about their favorite items are pretty priceless.
