A Hypnotist’s Meditation for Dropping Emotional Weight

Some days just feel heavy. (While we’re at it, so do some years.) While we can’t change our external circumstances in an instant, we can sometimes manage the weight of our anxieties and ruminating thoughts.
Hypnosis practitioner Morgan Yakus finds we can let heavy things go through active meditation, or visualization. In this exercise, Yakus has us imagine ourselves floating up and above wherever it is we are, noticing whatever happens to be below us and letting go of anything weighing us down. Then she invites us to approach a symbolic place of transformation—in this visualization, a firepit—and release into it whatever negative energies we find ourselves attached to. She asks us to anchor into ourselves a sense of calm self-confidence. And by the time we reach the end and open our eyes, we feel balanced, as if we’ve been washed clean, and we walk out with our load a little lighter.
