Elise’s At-Home Survival List

Our chief content officer, Elise Loehnen, has been recording special episodes for The goop Podcast—we know it kills her spirit a little bit not getting to meet people in person, but we’re impressed by her remote recording skills. We listen to those every Wednesday, as well as the regular podcast episodes every Tuesday and Thursday. We’ve also been making Elise do long check-in videos on Instagram. On our video calls, we hope for cameos by her sons or at least a classic Elise side tangent story that ends with Montana, mushrooms, or an esoteric book we’ve never heard of. So yeah, we miss her. And we wanted to know more about what she’s up to. What she’s reading, doing, dreaming about. And if that’s a video filter or if we should consider taking a new supplement.
ON HER FACE
-
“I hate makeup and am reveling in the fact that I don’t need to wear any at all. My routine is one step: GOOPGLOW peel pads—the full 15%—once a week.”

“When I feel like getting a little glammed up for our team’s daily Zoom check-in, I use some Balmyard balm on my lips. It’s a pretty berry tint that seems to be flattering on every skin tone. I share my deep and abiding passion for this product with our senior beauty editor, Megan O’Neill.”

“When there’s no need for color: Olio E Osso. I keep one on the shelf above my WFH desk and one on my bedside table…even though they’re in the same room.”

“Annee de Mamiel is my favorite witch in the goopy coven. I buy every one of her seasonal facial oils, and I also have the sleep series from her site.”

SUPPLEMENTS OF CHOICE
“I start my morning with GOOPGLOW, which cues me to take my vitamins: High School Genes. I’ve also been taking Paul Stamets’s MyCommunity. And I shoot LivOn vitamin C and magnesium. I don’t actually mix those in water—I just take them straight from the packet and then chug GOOPGLOW.”
BODY RESET
-
“I’ve been good at doing my streaming classes—Tracy Anderson, Bulldog Yoga, The Class, Lauren Roxburgh. But I’ve also been taking a lot of walks and standing in my kitchen to inhale chips. I think in a week or two I’m going to be ready for a deep reset, and so I’ve been mentally prepping myself to do ProLon again.”

“Normally, I see a bodyworker every two weeks to help me with my upper back and neck. Absent his adjustments, I have been leaning hard into my Theragun and LoRox roller. I also have been leaning forward onto my thumb and pointer fingers—thumb into cheekbones, pointer finger into my temple—to try to gently release my jaw.”

MIND WORK
-
“While I’ll always be partial to our podcast, I could not be more thrilled that my friend, Brené Brown, has entered the podcast fray: She is as brave, funny, and brilliant on her new show, Unlocking Us, as you would expect. And you can catch her episode on The goop Podcast with GP, if you missed it.”
-
“I have gone down a Terry Tempest Williams rabbit hole, a great reminder of my childhood in the wilderness. Terry is a conservationist, writer, and spiritual thinker, and her latest book—Erosion: Essays of Undoing—is stunning and perfect for this time. You can also catch her on the podcast on April 15.”

“Fantastic Fungi, filmmaker Louie Schwartzberg’s newest documentary, is full of awe-inspiring visuals of mushrooms growing and replenishing the earth beneath our feet. A lot of the film is about famed mycologist Paul Stamets, who is very rad and who I need to get on the podcast.”
HOME REFORM
-
“My husband has burned so much of this Cinnamon Projects incense, I’ve had to reorder it twice. But it smells amazing. He is hustling me for the stunning holder, too, but his birthday isn’t until December.”

CLOSET UPGRADES
“Like many across the globe, I’ve cleaned out every closet in the past two weeks. I have given myself permission to restock the basics.”

“I’m a nut for anything neutral—and then anything La DoubleJ, which is typically diametrically opposed to ‘basic.’ I want this dress: It’s made to be worn braless, and if that’s not WFH, I don’t know what is.”
La DoubleJ Paloma Dress goop, $910SHOP NOW -
“I love jumpsuits: The Terry jumpsuit is my all-time favorite. You can see me test-driving the new Beckner pajama edition. And this one from our Proenza Schouler collaboration is on my wish list. I’ve been living in jeans and workout pants, but if social distancing extends into the summer, I’m springing for this.”
