A number of us at goop (GP included) have long been searching for the answer to this question—why are we so effing tired? Not that we’re alone in the pursuit by any means. We hear this same question asked in so many ways from friends, family members, and readers: Regardless of how much sleep we get, why do we still feel so crappy? And, most importantly, what can we do about it?

THE WHY AM I SO EFFING TIRED FOOD PLAN
The best way for pretty much anyone to reset their system is with a detox, and if you’re looking for one in kit form, Dr. Junger’s 21-Day Clean Program is pretty incredible. Outside of a set detox, the closer we can stick to Junger’s elimination guidelines at as many meals as we can manage, the better we feel (and look). To make the Effing Tired regimen all the more potent, and to support your adrenals, the big keys to avoid—like caffeine—might seem a little tough to swallow at first, but really worth it for most of us results-wise.
Foods to eat:
- Plenty of fruits and vegetables
- Lean proteins such as chicken, turkey, lamb, and wild game
- Sardines, anchovies, and cold ocean fish such as salmon, cod, halibut, and tuna
- Legumes such as lentils, split peas, and all beans except edamame
- Gluten-free grains such as millet, quinoa, and brown rice
