10 of Our Everyday Tricks, Routines, and Staples for Feeling Our Best

Sponsored by Cotton

Right now, the things we’re reaching for the most are those that help simplify life and also add an element of thoughtfulness and comfort. Be it a solid cotton tee, a sleep-inducing weighted blanket, or workout gear made from natural fibers, these are the pieces we always feel good about using (or wrapping up in), because we care just as much about what we put on our bodies as what we put in them. We asked two goop staffers to tell us how they’re being more conscientious these days—through their routines, habits, and obsessions—plus the workhorses they swear by.

  2. “Four-ish months into Zoom meetings, I’m finally trying to show up—consistently—in something other than sweats…at least from the waist up. A simple cotton tee plus a chain that’s chunky enough to register onscreen usually does the trick (it’s the most effortless way to look like you made an effort). Laura Lombardi’s are the best on the market—substantial but not heavy, glamorous but still low-key enough for everyday wear.”

  4. “As much as I wish I were a Kondo, I’m more of a shove-everything-into-the-hall-closet-and-hope-it-still-closes girl by nature. The pandemic has changed me, though. So far I’ve purged said closet, cleared out an entire cabinet for my quickly expanding jigsaw puzzle collection (my roommate and I are obsessed with these 1,000-piece New Yorker ones), and even alphabetized my spice rack because, hey, I’ve got the time. Next on my list? Whittling down my too-high denim stack, then filling in any gaps—thoughtfully. When I’m looking for quality, timeless clothing, I think it’s important to check labels—which is why I’m choosing cotton as often as I can. I also want pieces that are versatile and easy, so I have my eye on this creamy cotton-canvas pair—they just might curb my medium-wash addiction.”

  6. “This is by no means a hot tip, but taking a daily neighborhood stroll has worked some serious wonders for my cabin fever and tech neck and cooking fatigue aaand that blah feeling that can sometimes set in. So every day at 6 p.m., I sign off Slack, lace on these new but vintage-looking Vejas (fun fact: The soles are made of sustainably sourced wild rubber from the Amazon rain forest), and cue up a podcast or two to keep me company while I get my steps in. On rotation: Armchair Expert, Code Switch, Where Should We Begin with Esther Perel (season four just launched this July), and The goop Podcast, naturally.”

Waking up and moving through the morning is easier and comfier in these lightweight, breathable pj’s. This baby-blue set is perfect for summer: soft enough to feel cozy without bringing the heat, hypoallergenic and easy on my sensitive skin, and 100 percent cotton, which means they get better with each wash. And anything washing-machine-friendly is a win in my book.”

  3. “Anyone who knows me will tell you that I’m great at sleeping. I think sleep debt is real, so my well-being and happiness depend on getting a full eight hours of snooze. I have a few secrets, but one thing that’s made a big difference is a weighted blanket made with natural fibers, like cotton. We spend most of our time in bed, so having the right fabric makes all the difference. I sleep better on cotton sheets than on polyester or rayon, so I was thrilled to discover a weighted blanket made with a 100 percent cool cotton layer. Cotton is also incredibly breathable, which means the blanket is cool enough to use all year round and doesn’t trap in heat—essential for summer nights in Los Angeles.”

This matcha powder feels like a special treat for every day, but there are also some health-boosting benefits. I like it cold with oat milk.”

  7. “Composting is a new thing I’ve been obsessing over, and I recently learned that it’s pretty easy to do even if you live in an apartment. You just have to be committed, as with any other routine. If you don’t have a garden or outdoor space, you can most likely drop off your food scraps at a community composting center. Reducing my waste is super important to me, especially in these times, and I want to be extra conscious about it now that I’m cooking more on a regular basis.”

  9. “I’m doubling down on my workouts because, well, what else? Some days I need a little extra motivation to get moving, and I’ve been conscientious about what fitness and being healthy mean to me. Wearing cotton, a natural fabric—in cuts that are both cool and comfortable—makes me feel confident and more conscious because it’s a sustainable fiber grown from the earth. This relaxed tee is soft and easy to wear throughout the day, from working out (I love this low-impact routine from Melissa Wood) to hitting the grocery store to walking with my dog.”

  11. “It blows my mind how long I lived without a salad spinner, and now I can’t imagine my life without one. I’ve been doing a CSA box for the last few months and was stumped on how to keep my greens fresh. I spent a lot of time and energy rinsing all my veggies and laying them out to dry before storing them, and I’d still end up with a wilted mess a few days later. With a salad spinner, cleaning and drying is a lot easier and faster. Sometimes I leave veggies in the container, and they seem to stay crispy for a while longer so I can continue making my beloved kale Caesar salad.”
