Most Delicious Superfood Mashup Ever

Ask Jean

Jean Godfrey-June is our beauty director, but her enthusiasms are many.

Primal is rarely cute, but a bear cracking into a cache of honey (on video or IRL) is one of the more charming things you’ll ever see. I imagine a bear coming upon this brilliant superfood mashup (organic cacao and raw honey—why did no one think of this before?) and completely losing his mind, as I did.

The benefits of honey have been documented extensively (antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral). Cacao, too, is so full of antioxidants and minerals, people would be crazy to avoid it.

Combine the two and pour the warmed result over Jeni’s Sweet Cream ice cream and what you’ll have is…not exactly health food. But it is free of artificial flavors, dyes, antibiotics, pesticides, chemical fillers, and texturizers. And it is unequivocally delicious. (It’s also sophisticated enough to fit in at a fancy dinner party and, of course, easier than easy to make.)

To tilt more full-on health, mix it into some powdered-mushroom hot cocoa. I do a packet of the cocoa, a cup of hot coconut milk, and half a teaspoon of the cacao honey, and it is: perfect.

If you are a maker of peanut-butter-and-jelly sandwiches, and if you ever secretly shave off a bit of sandwich for yourself before slapping it onto a plate or between waxed paper for its intended underage recipient, I hesitate to give you this next tip. But peanut butter and honey is the next level in sandwich-shaving. I discovered this fact several years ago, and I am not the slimmer for it. Add cacao to the equation and it’s time to just eat the whole sandwich. There’s nothing more delicious.
