8 Investment-Worthy Detox Tools

Why constrain investment pieces to the closet? You’ll find the same values of quality, durability, and heavy-hitting impact in the wellness world, too. We’ve rounded up the big-ticket detox tools that are 100 percent worth it, including a five-day meal plan designed to mimic fasting, an at-home facial nanocurrent treatment, a superpowered air purifier, and a comprehensive health tracker that fits on your finger.

  1. The at-home infrared mat

There’s something almost magic about infrared heat. We’ve fallen in love with yoga classes under infrared lamps and gotten attached to an infrared sauna you can wrap yourself up in. If you can relate, allow us to introduce you to infrared mats. While still warming, they’re a less sweaty experience than a full-on sauna, and they’re more versatile: You can make it the foundation of your yoga or meditation practice if you’d like, or you could just chill on top of it with a book or a movie or whatever. The one from HigherDOSE features far-infrared heat, pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF) technology, and layers of tourmaline and amethyst gemstones. Just select your preferred heat and PEMF settings and bask in that infrared glow for as long as you like.

  2. The king of all air purifiers

There’s no question that dust, dander, pollen, pollution, and other airborne particles affect both our daily well-being and our long-term health. And while some people are certainly more sensitive than others, most of us can benefit from using a good air purifier in our homes. This one from Air Doctor checks all the boxes: It has top-of-the-line VOC and UltraHEPA filters, a washable prefilter, an air ionizer to minimize odors, built-in air-quality monitors that automatically adjust the filtration level based on the air quality in the room, whisper-quiet fans, and a sleek, unobtrusive look that fits in just about anywhere. It completely filters the air of a 900-square-foot space three times an hour, and it’s Energy Star–certified, so it keeps costs lower over time than many other air purifiers.

  3. The fasting-mimicking five-day meal plan

Take a look at the decades of research on fasting: It’s fascinating stuff. That said, not all of us are jumping at the idea of fasting for more than short, intermittent periods of time. That’s why ProLon, a five-day meal kit designed to mimic the effects of a fast, is appealing: It’s based on research from Valter Longo, the director of the Longevity Institute at the University of Southern California, that suggests specific diets allow the body to get some of the benefits of prolonged fasting while still providing some essential nutrients. So instead of a pure water fast, you munch on almond butter bars, snack on olives and kale crackers, and sip on soup for the five consecutive days of the plan. It’s significantly less food than you likely normally eat, but it feels doable (here’s some advice on getting through it from a three-time ProLon vet). We like it for an annual or a once-in-a-while reset.

  4. The daily detox shot for liver and skin support

We made this supplement to keep up that post-January-detox glow full-time. It’s made to support the natural detoxification processes of the liver with milk thistle extract (the star of the show), selenium, zinc, magnesium, glycine, and pantothenic acid. Powerful antioxidants—resveratrol and vitamin C—help fight free radical formation in the skin. You take it as a daily shot—just pour it into a couple ounces of water, stir well, and knock it back.

  5. The health tracker that records everything

Oura is a comprehensive health tracker that fits on your finger. It does all the things wearable devices are designed to do: It tracks your steps, sleep, and general activity levels, for example. But it also does a lot of other really genius things, like measure your pulse, heart rate variability, and respiratory rate, and it even gives a sensitive read on your overnight body temperature. (Rest is when the ring gets its most complete read on your overall health). All of these data points are collected in the Oura app, where you’ll get personalized insights on your daily performance. It spits out three simple scores for sleep, activity, and something it calls readiness—a measure of your mental, emotional, and physical capacities based on your body’s signals and daily habits. And it offers suggestions on how you might improve those scores. Over time, Oura learns your body’s individual needs so you can set obtainable goals that work for you based on the data and your lifestyle. The ring works better the more you wear it (24/7 is best). It can go for a dip or in the shower without a problem, too. You’ll want to get the right fit, so don’t forget the ring sizing kit.

  6. The facial
    nanocurrent
    device for serious results

The ZIIP facial nanocurrent device uses nine different electrical treatments to target sagging, dullness, puffiness, and breakouts. It gives cheekbones and jawlines definition, and it stimulates collagen, so skin looks brighter, clearer, and more toned whether you use it daily, a few times a week, or once a month. You simply select a treatment on your phone, sync it with your ZIIP by Bluetooth, and follow along with routines created by Melanie Simon, legendary electrical aesthetician (and ZIIP’s creator). Most of the routines take five minutes or so—we love it before a shower or while watching TV. And the crystal gel? It’s the conductive medium you need for ZIIP to work, and it’s a powerful facial treatment all on its own: It’s infused with moisturizing and plumping ingredients including glutathione, cedar bark extract, and organic glycerin.

  7. The reverse osmosis water purifier

Most tap water contains a certain amount of contamination. What contaminants are present and at what level depends on where you are: We largely rely on public infrastructure to maintain healthy water systems, and specific water issues vary from community to community. Because these systems are typically far from perfect, consider investing in a water purifier for your home. A reverse osmosis filter is one good option. Reverse osmosis works by pushing water through tiny pores that allow only water molecules through, filtering contaminants out. AquaTru’s water purifier combines a carbon filter with reverse osmosis to remove lead, chlorine, fluoride, nitrates, PFAS, and many other contaminants according to NSF standards. It sits on the countertop (no installation required—just plug it into the wall) and filters water 80 percent more efficiently than traditional reverse osmosis filters, which tend to waste more water than they put out. Pour tap water into the BPA-free tank and the water will move through four stages of filtration, delivering purified water.
