Named after a Brazilian NGO that supports families with organic-cotton farms, these sleek Esplars are an eco-minded change of pace from your kickaround sneakers. (Fun fact: The sole is made from wild rubber sourced from the Amazon rain forest by authorized seringueiros, or rubber tappers—and Veja pays a premium to support forest conservation.) In addition to the organic cotton lining and plush insole, we love how these leather lace-ups—emblazoned with Veja’s signature V logo in burgundy—only get better with age.
Founded by childhood friends Sébastien Kopp and François-Ghislain Morillion, Veja produces everyday sneakers with strong sustainability cred. The brand sources Amazonian rubber directly from seringueiros (rubber tappers) for its soles, practices radical transparency by publishing everything from material costs to chemical safety test reports, and spends zero dollars on advertising, redirecting those funds to things like higher compensation for laborers. The designs range from classic to retro, all with their signature “V” emblazoned on the side.
