Nordstrom is Going Boutique

In 2013, when Nordstrom hired Olivia Kim away from now-legendary Opening Ceremony it seemed like an unlikely pair: After all, the retailer is one of the more venerable, old-school department stores in the country. First, she launched Pop-Ins, bringing in companies like Topshop and Merci, and on Thursday she’s introducing SPACE, a boutique-like experience for more avant-garde designers that will live in Nordstrom flagships. The racks are lined with labels like Creatures of the Wind, Simone Rocha, Wwake, Undercover, and Isa Arfen, and the interiors are dotted with treasures from Verner Panton, Ettore Sottsass, and Max Lamb. It’s cool to see something so conceptual in one of the classics.
