The New Rules of Tailoring
In partnership with our friends at Chloé
The fashion calendar may read spring/summer ’21, but the clock just struck fall—a time of year synonymous with tactful tailoring and luscious layering. While mourning fashion month as we once knew it, we went back to the fall shows for inspiration.
Will we ever walk into a meeting again in a pair of perfectly fitting trousers? Or grab after-dark drinks in something chic and considered? With easy, all-day-everyday-wearable spins on the season’s sharpest silhouettes, anything is possible.
PICK UP THE CHECK
Break up the top-down tonal party with a swooshy plaid on bottom (it’s a modern update to the prim pencil and less restrictive, too) and add dimension with soft-to-the-touch textures and a scarflike neckline.
TOUGH IT OUT
Carefree cotton plus a cinch-it-yourself tie makes a traditionally buttoned-up shirtdress anything but; lug-sole boots and a coordinating bag with bravado make it perfectly conducive to the occasional outing—who cares if those outings occur only within a two-mile radius of your home.
go wide
Culottes might just be the unsung hero of 2020: They’ve got all the appeal of something tailored but with the comfort level of pajamas. Take them from desk to socially distanced drinks with a casual button-up, slides on your feet, and a few drops of that smooth, sexy Vintner’s serum—goop’s answer to makeup of late.
