Brights to Combat Winter Blues
As far as trends go, red was the breakout color for fall 2017, and its allure is particularly relevant heading into the holidays. Part of mastering the look is not to overthink it: a creative mash-up of hues from burgundy to crimson work best if you stick to solids. Below, two takes—whether you want to dip your toes or go all-in.

A Little
Think of a multitasking crimson bag as a gateway to the trend; from there, you can layer in a candy-apple knit. (The hues don’t need to match exactly—in fact, it’s better if they don’t.) Ground your outfit with well-worn denim and a soft suede boot, like this lavender pair, which balances the brightness up top.

A Lot
Head-to-toe red isn’t exactly for the faint-hearted, but it’s not as intimidating as it looks, either. Ease into it by staying in one section of the color wheel—here, a slouchy burgundy turtleneck and aubergine ankle boot tone down the boldness of a red trouser. What’s great is that all pieces are stand-outs on their own, so you’ll get a ton of wear out of each.
