The run-up to the end of the year can feel a lot like a marathon, and one (excellent) way to celebrate crossing the finish line is by getting out of town for a few days…or longer. Whether you’re heading to your favorite city, a sun-soaked beach, or a snowy mountain town, a little bit of forward planning can make the actual vacation that much more enjoyable. To that end, we’ve put together three packing lists for three types of vacations.
THE CITY

A strong-shouldered overcoat. A slim cashmere turtleneck. A structured cap-sleeve top. Wide-legs cut from rigid cotton denim. Done in a mostly black palette, these are the kind of sleek, classic pieces you can mix and match to always-chic effect. The accessories follow a similar theme: Chelsea boots, an elegant tote, and timeless jewelry, like a square-faced watch and a diamond-encrusted band.
THE BEACH

You want easy pieces in natural fabrics, like a tailored linen set and a nubby-textured cotton sheath. To round it out, some must-haves, like a flattering bikini and strappy sandals. And then some fun-to-haves: a pineapple-printed caftan, a sunset-orange bag, and an emerald-eyed panther cuff.
THE MOUNTAINS

Let go of the dream of going carry-on-only here: You need lots of layers to keep you warm, and lots of options, for the ski day, the après, and the evening soirée. Lean into soft, cozy textures—a chunky knit, a faux-fur jacket, shearling-lined slip-ons, a plush wool wrap—and winter-white hues. Accessories-wise, keep it simple with a gold-and-diamond bracelet you never have to take off.
