Summer Athleisure

The growing popularity of what we all lovingly refer to as “athleisure” has permanently muddied the distinctions between workout wear, street clothes, and lounge pieces. What’s more, sport-centric brands both new (Outdoor Voices is an aesthetically innovative company helmed by a really cool young woman) and established (Reebok’s new designer has totally shifted our perception of the brand) are reinterpreting the idea of performance gear by way of fresh shapes and unexpected details. As a result, getting dressed for a full day of anything from dance cardio to casual lunch meetings to grocery runs is now open to a whole gold mine of options—below, a few of our favorites.

Look 1

Drop-crotch, dark-colored sweats can easily double as relaxed (very relaxed) trousers when styled with a ladylike striped cardigan and luxe kicks (feel free to swap in sandals if sneakers feel too sporty).

Look 2

Yoga and prep isn’t the most obvious of pairings—but that’s what makes this look stand out: the zip-front varsity jacket tones down the tie-dye sweats, while the pastel palette is simultaneously elevated and universally flattering.

Look 3

Playsuits come in all shapes and sizes, and this one—with its drawstring waist and cutout back—is meant to be worn extra loose and lounge-y; graphic, colorblock sneakers and a camo sweatshirt finish the look.

Look 4

Tennis whites are inherently chic, meaning they do the bulk of the work for you. Off the court, simply add espadrilles and a bright, playful pullover.
