Fall, Two Ways
In LA, the seasonal shift from summer to fall might be slight, but that doesn’t mean Californians don’t get the same back-to-school thrills pulling out cashmere sweaters and heavier down comforters as the air starts to get crisp and the days shorter. We checked in with designer Jenni Kayne, who on the eve of her first-ever home collection launch has been feeling equally nostalgic. In fact, the line, which reflects Kayne’s easygoing, minimalist aesthetic and includes textiles sourced from Peru and candles made right here in LA, is primed for cozying up and staying in.
Meanwhile, further up the coast in SF, where goop’s Britt Pattner lives with her husband Justin, temperatures may have hovered in the mid-60s all summer long, but that doesn’t stop them from heading back East to the Hamptons for a fall fix that includes apple picking and brisk morning beach walks. Below, Kayne and Pattner share how they get ready for sweater weather. (Hint, it has nothing to do with a pumpkin spice latte.)

Ash Matte Glass Candle Jenni Kayne, $55 “I usually pull out my heavier throw alpaca blankets and pillows for a cozier feel in the living room and bedrooms. Lately, I’ve been burning our ‘Ash’ candle since it has a great woodsy scent.” -

Alpaca Basket-Weave Throw Jenni Kayne, $195 “There’s no shortage of throws in our house. This oversized alpaca one is just beautiful.” - “My husband Justin is from New York and we like to go back to the Hamptons in the fall. The trees are full of apples, the restaurants are quieter (we love the Palm in East Hampton for its cozy fall vibes…and martinis), and the beaches are empty.”
-
ROCHAS
Landsbury Blazer goop, $1,520 “When it’s not cool enough yet for a coat, a blazer layered over a blouse or sweater is my go-to.” -
JENNI KAYNE
Shearling Moroccan Slipper Jenni Kayne, $250 “Nothing is better than cozy slippers on a grey SF morning.” -

LAURENCE DACADE
Peter Boot goop, $868 “I turn to mid-calf boots in the fall for both form and function—pair them with a skirt, tucked into jeans, tights or no tights. It’s nice to dress up a bit after a laid-back summer.” -
BIDK Home
MARBLE PLATE WITH BRASS INLAY goop, $42 “A pretty cheese board steps up any last-minute hostessing situation.” -
“This chicken sausage, bean, and veggie stew is the perfect Sunday night recipe because it involves lots of chopping. It’s the kind of dish that just gets better as the week goes on.”
