Gifts for the Philanthropist

Environmental Defense Fund’s Blueprint 2020, a strategic plan to combat the planet’s largest challenges, from climate change to the health of our oceans and most precarious ecosystems, relies on individual donors (who make up more than two thirds of EDF’s operating funds) in order to move the needle.

Earthjustice is a brilliant organization that uses the law to fight for a client that otherwise would not have a voice—”because the earth needs a good lawyer.” Comprised of a hundred-plus attorneys across the country, Earthjustice takes on legal cases (free of charge) with the goal of protecting the environment from harm and making it safe for all inhabitants (human and not). They make it pretty easy for you to help support Mother Nature, too: Click here to see how to write to relevant politicians and organizations about campaigns that matter to you, and/or here to make a donation.

Inspired by an amazing (seriously, put it on your must-watch list) short film, The Trevor Project provides mental health support to LGBTQ teens. In addition to their now-famous suicide prevention help line, they offer trainings for teachers and counselors and advocate for laws related to suicide prevention among LGBTQ young people.
