ON OUR RADAR

Voting Merch, Jewelry Box Upgrades, and the Mother of All Blankets

A big part of our jobs in the goop fashion department is getting distracted. It’s actually encouraged. That’s because sifting through the latest and greatest in art, culture, and—of course—fashion is how we keep inspiration levels high. We created this column to share these insights with everyone. Expect to read about up-and-coming collaborations, exhibitions that hit a spectrum of cultural touchpoints, notable store openings, and anything else we hope gets you as excited as it gets us.

As it is for the rest of the country, the impending election is big on our radar. That said, we’re making a point to look for bright spots—a do-good collab between friends, a fifty-year celebration, sparkly things to mentally bookmark—that help break the all-news-all-the-time cycle.

    FASHION’S CALL TO ACTION

We are now forty-one days out from one of the most crucial elections of our time. Doing their part in spreading the word and inspiring people to fulfill their civic duties, brands big and small are banding together to churn out some exceptionally cool merch with an even cooler message. The idea is simple: Get people to the polls on November 3 to vote.

Lingua Franca, Jennifer Meyer, and Carroon are donating a portion of the proceeds from their vote-happy pieces to I am a voter., a nonprofit and nonpartisan campaign geared at getting people registered and keeping them informed. And if you haven’t seen it, Levi’s voting PSA with Hailey Bieber and Oge Egbuonu hits the nail right on the head (the classic hoodies don’t exactly hurt, either).

I AM A VOTER. T-SHIRT, I am a voter., $25; CORROON TOTE, Corroon, $225; LINGUA FRANCA SWEATER, Lingua Franca, $285; by tatoufa tote, By Tatoufa Paris, $299; LEVI’S X VOTE SWEATSHIRT, Levi’s, $75; JENNIFER MEYER NECKLACE, Jennifer Meyer, $650

    PASHA DE CARTIER

The original Pasha de Cartier came on the scene in the mid ’80s—alongside Madonna, The Breakfast Club, and Cindy Crawford. And like its fellow icons, this timepiece holds up. Particularly since Cartier modernized it with a streamlined silhouette, elegant extras like a diamond-set bezel and a sapphire crown, and interchangeable bands in steel and deep-navy leather. But that distinctive round face with its graphic numerals? Just as edgy as the original. Even better, it’s got a good backstory: The 1985 Pasha design was inspired by Cartier’s first-ever round-faced wristwatch, designed in 1943. To carry on Pasha de Cartier’s legacy of sleek complexity, the maison put the piece in good hands—and on the wrists of five very cool, incredibly talented modern creators. To learn more about the Pasha de Cartier community, watch these beautifully shot black-and-white videos.

    MAYA X KIO

Maya Brenner (much-adored jewelry designer) and Nyakio Grieco (founder of the clean skin-care brand nyakio) have talked for years about collaborating; they just weren’t sure on what, exactly. And then this summer unfolded. In response to multiple instances of police brutality and subsequent nationwide protests, the friends designed a limited-edition capsule collection that celebrates diversity, equality, and social justice. The Rise Up necklace—a riff on Brenner’s signature nameplate necklace—is a wearable daily reminder to support the Black community in all the ways you can (by calling your reps, amplifying Black voices, shopping Black-owned businesses…). The gold-and-enamel Unity necklace, along with the matching studs, symbolizes the spirit of true collaboration. Fifty percent of all proceeds will be donated to organizations actively working to build a better world, including Color of Change, Girls Inc. Los Angeles, and I am a voter.

It’s that time of year when summer’s finest is swiftly tucked away and the extra closet space presents the opportunity to invest in something new. HERMÈS CLAMP-DYE BLANKETS

Hermès never fails to serve lifestyle goods that balance luxury, utility, and a little sense of humor (leopard longboard, anyone?). This latest from the brand suits 2020’s needs perfectly and lands just in time for road trips, weekends away, and cozy nights spent fireside. Ready your home for the latest Hermès blanket: a hand-loomed cashmere throw done in deep, vivid fall colors. The resist-dying technique uses wooden clamps to pinch the fabric while it’s dipped in color—so this blanket is essentially couture’s answer to tie-dye. Add it to your holiday wish list (no, September is not too early), then drape it over your favorite reading chair and thank Hermès, god of luxuries, for the best blanket ever.

    TIFFANY & CO.
CELEBRATES FIFTY YEARS OF THE BONE CUFF

It’s the accessory you would have spotted flickering under the disco ball on any given night at Studio 54, or circling the wrists of the glitterati throughout the decades (we see you, Sophia Loren). Sculptural in shape, fluid in form, Elsa Peretti’s Bone cuff is, in a word: iconic. The Italian model turned jewelry designer’s sleek silver creations were unlike any of the gold pieces of the times—something that grabbed the attention of designer Halston, who later introduced Peretti to Tiffany & Co., where she spent the bulk of her career honing her craft. Fifty years later, Peretti’s most coveted masterpiece—recast in splashy new hues with exquisite jade stones—feels as impactful as it did in the ’70s.

    GUCCI DOES FINE JEWELRY

The big G is doing big things in the world of fine jewelry. We’re talking fierce eighteen-karat gold cocktail rings fashioned into iconic house emblems, lion’s-head necklaces dripping in diamonds, solid-gold watches made with Swiss precision, and more vintage-looking gems that have the I-just-scored-big-at-an-estate-sale vibe nailed. It’s enough to make even the most die-hard minimalist second-guess her dainty-things-only philosophy.
