Based in Portland, Maine, Lowe Hardware actually started out doing specialty hardware packages for large yachts (and they still do that better than anyone else). Since then, the family-owned business has expanded to offer standard and custom doors, cabinetry, and specialty hardware for large architecture firms; they made the gold handles for the kitchen in the goop mrkt. Their Soho showroom is a great place to get a sense of what they can do.

With projects like the Ace Hotel, The Standard, The Breslin and a new condo on the corner of Elizabeth and Prince, Robin Standefer and Stephen Alesch are the designers of the moment. With a background in set design, they are also absolutely brilliant at sourcing special pieces for the home.
