Tara Kolla actually started Silver Lake Farms in the backyard of her Silver Lake home—as she tells it, she and her husband “just aren’t pool people,” so she plowed an acre of land and equipped it with rows and rows of breathtaking ranunculus, larkspur, dahlias, and sweet peas that climb the fences. A degree in horticulture and several seasons later, her business has exploded beyond the farmer’s market to become a full-fledged CSA that delivers locally grown, organic bouquets to families and businesses across the city on a weekly basis (though you can still find her at the Hollywood Farmer’s Market and a few other spot around town). Tara’s also an important community activist for urban farming and the slow flower movement in Los Angeles and nationally; long live the #fempire.
