There’s something unapologetically romantic about a silk-lined camel hair coat, and Max Mara’s take, cut in a classic trench shape, checks all the boxes: trim tailoring, knee-skimming length, and a feminine seam and slit in the back. The wide collar comes to a sophisticated v-shape in the front, but also has a hidden button that can be fastened for a more prim-and-proper look. A second hidden button holds the front of the coat in place, and nearly-invisible threads keep the belt from disappearing every time you take it off.

Max Mara was founded back in the 1950s in the Italian province of Reggio Emilia, which is about halfway between Milan and Bologna in central Italy—today, the family-owned company is still operated by founder Achille Maramotti’s three children.
