Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek
2821 Turtle Creek Blvd., Uptown
The Mansion was built in the style of a Renaissance Italian villa by a Texan oil magnate in the 1920’s. In the late 1970’s, it became the very first of the Rosewood Hotels: Renovated by heiress Caroline Rose Hunt herself, it’s the crown jewel of a hotel group known for its tasteful take on larger-than-life luxury. Aside from all the amenities you’d expect from a hotel of this caliber, and the elegant restaurant which is a Dallas mainstay, it’s the atmosphere that makes this hotel one of our very favorites: The traditional décor and service makes it feel as if it were still an oil magnate’s mansion.
The Ritz-Carlton Dallas
2121 McKinney Ave., Uptown
You pretty much know what to expect out of a Ritz hotel and you also know what to expect out of Dallas, which is a kind of over-the-top fanciness, and an appreciation for the finer things gone a little larger than life. The Ritz Dallas is a perfect conflation of the two. Granted, the rooms are a little trad, as is the restaurant, and lobby décor, but what else would you expect? It’s the impeccable service, kids activities on offer, days spent lounging by the pool, Bentleys on call to take you around the city, and sprawling spa complex, that makes the stay.
