Michelle Smith took a rather circuitous path to becoming an interior designer: First, she went to law school and then put in time at a big NYC firm before a colleague suggested she meet interior designer Daniel Romualdez. She went on to work for Romualdez working on projects like Tory Burch’s apartment at the Pierre Hotel before branching out on her own in 2012. Under Studio MRS, she has lent her polished-yet-comfortable style to designer Prabal Gurung’s home and showroom and Emma Hearst’s Hawaii home. She’s currently finishing up renovations on a townhouse in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn, that she shares with her photojournalist fiancé.
