Absolute Essentials for Workday Energy

Our Absolute Essentials
to Get through the Workday

In partnership with our friends at Purely Elizabeth

If you work in the goop test kitchen, you really work in supermarkets, in specialty stores, in restaurants, at farmers’ markets, at your desk, and of course, in the car much of the time. “On any given day, we can find ourselves in six or more different markets trying to find ingredients for recipe testing,” says goop food editor Caitlin O’Malley. “We often end up hopping on conference calls in the checkout line. We definitely get some looks.” To stay grounded, the team packs well, says goop food editor Ana Hito: “It’s entirely possible to still feel great even on those really hectic days if we’ve brought the right tools.” The right tools can be anything from a glow-inducing skin essential and a gorgeous but practical bag to grain-free superfood bars that make a fine breakfast (and prevent hangry LA-traffic meltdowns).

    Grain-Free Bars
    Purely Elizabeth, $27.50 for 12

“I first fell in love with Purely Elizabeth through its granola—it’s delicious, with a nice crispy crunch and significantly less sugar than other brands. The Grain-Free Superfood Bars somehow manage to be equally delicious and are brilliant to keep in my purse for days when I miss breakfast or afternoons when I’m about to have a hangry
rush-hour meltdown in the car. The Coconut Cashew is my favorite: It’s not too sweet, and the ingredients are just nuts, seeds, a little coconut sugar, and adaptogenic reishi.”

  3. Dew Skin Moisturizing Coverage Dew Skin Moisturizing Coverage
    goop, $45

“I’m a minimalist in the morning, and this tinted moisturizer/sunscreen combination totally gets it done for me. It’s my moisturizer, the subtle tint evens out my complexion, and the SPF 30 protects my skin. It’s definitely my desert island beauty product.”

    goop, $90

“I never used to have issues maintaining my energy throughout the day, but as the big 3-0 approaches, I’ve started to feel my energy lagging a bit. When that second (and third!) coffee stopped doing it for me, I decided to try this vitamin protocol, and I feel great. It’s been such an easy addition to my routine, and I keep a few of the sachets in my bag, just in case I forget to take them in the morning.”

  5. Grown Alchemist Hand Cream: Vanilla & Orange Grown Alchemist Hand Cream: Vanilla & Orange
    Grown Alchemist
    goop, $15

“When I’m cooking, I’m constantly washing my hands, so they get dry. I always have this hand cream in my bag. The orange-and-vanilla scent is so pretty—floral and slightly sweet. It’s a low-lift way to sneak a little self-care into my day.”

  6. Leather Trimmed Market Basket Leather Trimmed Market Basket
    Medina Mercantile
    goop, $80

“I once had a boss who told me never to get into cooking because the job basically boils down to schlepping things from one place to another. Obviously I ignored the advice, but she did have a point: Cooking requires a lot of lugging things around. This big woven market bag is sturdy and totally gorgeous—it begs for a baguette and a bouquet or big bunches of greens. Who knew schlepping could look chic?”

  7. Porter Ceramic To-Go Mug Porter Ceramic To-Go Mug
    W&P Design
    goop, $25

“One of my 2019 resolutions was to produce less waste, so I’ve started keeping an extra coffee tumbler in my car and/or my work bag so I can indulge in impromptu latte cravings without using disposable cups. This cute pink ceramic one is my favorite.”

    Purely Elizabeth, coming soon

“I love a hearty breakfast, especially after working out, but I rarely have time to make one. The grain-free Cauli Hot Cereal from Purely Elizabeth is so easy: You add hot water and that’s it. And you won’t believe how delicious it is—super satisfying and totally plant-based with plenty of protein. I like to make it at home or throw one in my bag for work. And it’s totally transformed airport breakfast (and even snack) situations; I always have something I know I love that’s healthy and easily portable.”

    Active Botanical Serum
    goop, $185

“I don’t have the time or patience to fuss with a bunch of products, so this serum oil is pretty much my entire skin-care routine. It’s low-maintenance but super effective. I love that little extra bit of dewy glow it gives me in the morning. And it smells amazing.”

  4. Eucalyptus Towelettes Eucalyptus Towelettes
    Herban Essentials
    goop, $16

“The best wipes ever! The eucalyptus scent is somehow both calming and invigorating. They’re great for a quick hand wipe, and I even use them on my face for a midday reset or to freshen up after a long flight. I stash them in my purse, glove compartment, desk drawer—pretty much everywhere.”

  5. Yoga Mat Bag Yoga Mat Bag
    MZ Wallace
    goop, $125

“I’m an early riser (seriously, up at 5 a.m. no matter what), and I love to start the day with a yoga class. This bag is my absolute favorite because it’s got the perfect little pocket to hold my keys and a few extra hair ties.”

  6. Nerd Alert Nerd Alert

    Nerd Alert
    goop, $30

“I’m not a coffee drinker, and I definitely drag a bit around 10 a.m. These chews are the perfect little pick-me-up: Each one has about as much caffeine as half a cup of coffee, so I’m not buzzy or jittery after—just refocused. I keep them in my desk drawer.”

    SOMA x goop
    goop, $32

“I drink a lot of water, so the first thing I do when I get to the office is fill up this water bottle to take with me no matter where I end up going that day.”
