John Truex & Richard Lambertson’s holiday survival tips

The duo are now Design Directors at Shinola—and Lambertson co-owns one of the country’s best gift and home stores, Privet House—and so we asked them to share a few tips on what keeps them sane through the colder months.
First things first: Make a double batch of Patsy’s Bourbon Slush. It’s a holiday necessity. Your house will be filled with friends all through the season! All will be good.
PATSY’S BOURBON SLUSH
- 2-3oz cans frozen lemonade
- 1-12oz can frozen orange juice
- 2 cups hot strong tea
- 1/2 cup sugar (optional)
- 6 cups water
- 2 to 2 1/2 cups quality bourbon
- Ginger Ale
- Mix hot tea, sugar, lemonade, and orange juice together.
- Add water and bourbon.
- Freeze for three days.
- To serve, scoop into a rocks glass and top with cold ginger ale. Add mint to garnish.

Chill out with a marathon of fantastic shows on Netflix. Everyone needs a good binge of great shows. Once again—in front a blazing fire. We’ll be watching Orange is the New Black and American Horror Story.
This sounds scary, but I (John) really like taking the time to organize the closets. The best time to do this is during the holidays…it clears the mind and prepares you for the New Year.
