The Making of goop MRKT Amagansett
This summer we brought our sixth installment of goop MRKT to a place we always associate with the season: The Hamptons. Located in a century-old cottage in Amagansett, the space evokes the essence of a seaside European market, where locals shop for their daily provisions. “The idea was to create goop’s version of a general store, inspired by the ones you might find in English seaside spots like Cornwall or Devon, that carry everything from ice cream to stamps,” says goop Experiential Creative Director Brittany Pattner. “Our goal was to create a shop catering to all your summer needs.” Stocked with our favorite essentials, from clean skincare and wellness aids to bathing suits, party dresses, home décor, and a Despicable Me 3 x goop summer shop for littles, the market also offers daily deliveries of Eli’s Market Bread baguettes (a longtime GP favorite) and fresh organic veggies.
To bring the look and feel of a true British market to life, we tapped Charles & Co. Design Studio, a collaborative effort between Soho House alumns Vicky Charles and James Waterworth–who elevated the interiors of the historic space while respecting its original integrity. “The inspiration was led by the building, which is one of the oldest in Amagansett,” says Charles. “It’s so charming and so sweet.” To brighten the space, Charles chose a dusty pink Portola paint, Carleton V wallcovering, lighting by Urban Electric Co., rugs by both Woven and Merida–and anchored each room with expertly sourced antiques from Jennings & Rohn Montage. Landscape architect and Vogue contributing editor Miranda Brooks lent her vision to the gardens (including an organic vegetable patch). Read on to learn more about the inspiration and handiwork that went into the space–and come by to shop and say hello; we’re around through August 20.
