Dispatches From PAD Paris
Last week, we went to Paris to check out the PAD Fair for some art and design inspiration. It’s a small show, with a selected group of galleries showing some pretty spectacular 20th and 21st Century design pieces and works of art. Here are the standouts:
A design show in Paris would not be complete without a room full of the modern day surrealist Vincent Darré’s designs, including tables and chairs with bones for legs in the HSBC lounge.
This gallery, specializing in contemporary Scandinavian design, was a favorite.
We loved this Hexagon chair by Rasmus Fenham Furniture and this neon cloud, “Fivefold Happiness,” by Astrid Krogh.
The most amazing thing was this photo tapestry of city lights by Grethe Soerenson, who has developed a technique for translating photographic pixels into thread. Check out the close-up.
The home of the famed porcelain manufacturer, showed these modern fairytale plates by Françoise Pétrovich…
And gorgeous, minimal ceramics by Kristin McKirdy.
A Carlo Scarpa marble table topped with ceramic pieces by Ettore Sottsass at this Italian gallery.
An incredible tile piece by Glithero, the London based duo made up of Tim Simpson and Sarah van Gameren. We’re seeing their Blueware tile work pop up all over the place.
