Did we imagine we’d be fixating on paper flowers for summer 2021? We did not. But we saw these—they’re dotted around the gorgeous Celerie Kemble interiors at the just-renovated Mayflower Inn in Connecticut—and fell deeply and instantly in love. Imaginative, original, and just plain stunning, they’re hand-dyed, painted, cut, and potted in New York by Livia Cetti and a team of artisans. No two pieces are ever completely alike (just as no two actual flowers are). They come “planted” in exquisite terra-cotta pots, and they look fantastic (and draw the eye upward) practically anywhere you put them: entryway, dining table, mantel, bedroom, bath, or office. You can also buy them as stems, and either version lasts (no watering, no wilting) pretty much forever.
Chic Blow-Up Pools Are at Last a Thing
A brilliant fashion-industry veteran thought this up—a cool-looking inflatable pool—then made it BPA- and phthalate-free, put a drain at the bottom, and made inflating and deflating easy. It fits two adults, and the ice-blue tile design is stunning.
We Love Stripes for Beach Days
The French-Girl Umbrella
In vintage-y stripes with thick undyed cotton fringe lining the edges of the canopy, this umbrella spans six feet for a truly luxurious expanse of shade. The sturdy seven-foot pole is made from reclaimed timber, with a marine-grade aluminum handle and hinge (to direct the shade where it’s needed most). And it packs up neatly in a matching canvas carrier.
Plus the Cooler That Looks Like Chic Luggage
Sling this over your shoulder or hold it by the handle—both straps are outfitted with super plush padded leather that makes carrying it throughout the day’s adventures that much easier. The striped exterior is made from durable premium umbrella canvas, and the signature printed lining keeps anything—sandwiches, salads, lemonade, cocktails—cold all day (and night).
We love this beach towel. It’s enormous and sky blue, with thick, chic stripes. Hand-loomed in Pakistan, it’s 100 percent cotton, so it’s both super soft and ultra-absorbent, and of course it’s nice and spacious for stretching out on.
These stripes have a train-conductor–OshKosh B’gosh vibe that we cannot get enough of, and the fabric is breathable and durable (you can’t take enough napkins to the beach, truly).
Sometimes you want a firepit, sometimes you want a grill, and sometimes you want both at the same time. This is the sleek, good-looking, stainless steel answer: a firepit-grill combo that accommodates both an open fire and controlled-temperature cooking and grilling and is as brilliant on your back patio as it is on the beach or even at your campsite. It breaks down and sets up in seconds and comes with a grate and an adjustable pole for grilling at just the right heat.
Grow Your Own
You can grow up to thirty different vegetables, fruits, flowers, and herbs all at once with this hybriponic grower. It works with preplanted cubes (you get thirty of them with the kit and can order more as needed), so all you need to do is add water. Your first harvest should be in a few weeks, and you often get multiple yields from a single plant—it’s pretty amazing.
It’s about a Sleek Lamp—or Candlelight
This cylinder of blonde oak (or walnut) with a satin-finish brass base celebrates the shape and warmth of the Tala bulb it comes with. There’s a cool in-line dimmer, so it’s both practical and a little sexy.
From New York designer David Weeks and Tala, this lamp is made with a stunning high-gloss glaze smoothed across the top third of the base that contrasts with the matte porcelain finish of the oval bulb.
To accentuate the matte porcelain finish of the Enno bulb, the top third of this lamp is finished in a gorgeous high-gloss glaze. Talk about glowy.
We’re enchanted by these candles from Maison Louis Marie: The scents are super sophisticated, and the glass containers are as minimalist as it gets, so they work with any style of luxury homeware.
Balincourt is named for the founders’ family home, which is set in an ancient forest. It smells of sandalwood, cedar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and earthy vetiver.
Vallée de Farney is a nature preserve in the forests of Mauritius, and this woody mineral fragrance was inspired by it. It mixes a citrus accord of grapefruit, orange, and black pepper with cedarwood and patchouli.
Named for a mysterious black lake, L’Etang Noir mixes exotic tobacco flower with vanilla, anise, nutmeg, ginger, and clove.
Kandilli is a small village set on the Asian bank of the Bosporus in Istanbul, where the Maison Louis Marie founder’s mother, Twinkie, first smelled tuberose at the age of sixteen. It blends a tropical tuberose accord with white lilies, amber, and sandalwood.
Clean Up (without the Nasty Chemicals)
These are just the coolest-looking towels we’ve seen in a long time, somehow modern and old-school at once. They’re plush, super soft, highly absorbent, double-looped organic cotton terry, and we’re ordering a whole stack of them.
Crafted with double-looped (GOTS-certified) organic cotton terry and patterned with a mod grid in sage and chalk, this ultrasoft, beautifully absorbent towel stands out tastefully wherever it’s hung, laid out, or folded.
Woven in Portugal from GOTS-certified organic cotton terry in a decidedly goopy pink, this is possibly the softest thing you’ll step foot on.
This fresh-looking plant-based dish soap really works without any of the harmful ingredients present in many conventional cleaning products. It’s sudsy, super effective, and even refillable for sustainability, and it’s safe for kids, pets, and of course the earth. It also smells like fresh linens.
No matter what direction you go in décorwise, this luxurious plant-based hand soap looks gorgeous on practically any sink. Infused with ylang-ylang, lavender, and lemon, it gently cleanses to leave your hands soft and smooth. And you can refill the sustainable glass bottle again and again.
The best all-purpose cleaner also happens to be free of the harmful ingredients found in many of its conventional counterparts. It’s super high-performance and brilliant for the kitchen and bathroom, it smells subtly of freshly washed linens, and the spray bottle is made from recycled plastic.
Plant-based and biodegradable, these sleek wipes are unscented, ultrathick, and super effective for high-touch surfaces at home—or anywhere you go.
A New Coffee Routine
This ingenious French press is made of insulated stainless steel, so it maintains a consistent temperature throughout the brew for significantly better taste. The nonstick ceramic interior cleans up in seconds, too.
Made especially for daily brewed coffee—pour-over, French press, AeroPress, cold brew, etc.—this has professional-grade burrs, eleven grind settings, and a unique single-dose loading system for maximum bean freshness.
This double-walled ceramic cup makes for epic espresso-based drinks: The hidden parabolic slope lifts crema to the top without disruption for perfect latte art.
The designers of this mug mimicked the tapered thin lip of a Cabernet glass for ultimate taste and comfort, and the ceramic interior makes the taste even better (the stainless steel in many travel mugs can impart a funny taste). It comes with a brilliant snap-in splash guard, too.
With a lightning-fast heating time, this is the ultimate electric kettle for pour-overs, tea, and more, made with a precision pour spout, variable temperature control, an LCD screen, a sixty-minute hold mode, and a brew stopwatch. It steadily maintains the perfect temperature as efficiently as possible, displayed in either Fahrenheit or Celsius.
If you want a smoothie instead: This high-tech blender is brilliant for smoothies, water infusions (cucumbers, strawberries, mint, and the like give better flavor when you pulse them in a blender), soups, and cocktails.
