Our Chic Design Collaboration is Back
Created with CB2Published on: September 26, 2024
The much-obsessed-over design collaboration between goop and CB2 is back—and full of fresh ideas. Get ready for plaster, resin, and shearling, along with thrilling juxtapositions of scale and materials. “We were inspired by modern Parisian apartments—that sense of elegance and daring—and also mid-century Italian modernist furniture,” says Gwyneth, whose Montecito home also served as a key touchpoint.
True beauty comes from individuality and refinement, and that’s what we infused into every detail. Little touches—like the brass caps and marble legs on the Nadine chair—add an element of high design, and will patina over time. And we leaned into complex materiality to create timeless, heirloom pieces.
Nadine Shearling Accent Chair with Marble Legs, goop x CB2, $1,799; Noemie Etched White Wine Glass, goop x CB2, $29.95; Noemie Etched Coupe Glass, goop x CB2, $29.95; Noemie Etched Double Old Fashioned Glass, goop x CB2, $24.95; Sevigne Modular Ivory Boucle sectional, goop x CB2, $2,997; Clemence Carved Marble Short Side Table, goop x CB2, $2,499
“It feels collected,” says Ryan Turf, president of CB2. “And will age beautifully over time.” The highly-anticipated second collaboration comprises 25 unique designs across living, lighting, textiles, decor and entertainment, building on the dramatic success of the original 2018 collection (the Gwyneth Chair from 2018 still sells out time and again). Select tabletop pieces will be available at goop.com and goop stores; the full collection will be sold at cb2.com and CB2 locations across the country.
Mylene 97″ Ivory Boucle Curved Sofa, goop x CB2, $3,999; Bretagne Resin and Metal Dining Table 96″, goop x CB2, $3,499
The pieces blend vintage references and finishes with a decidedly modernist eye. The contrast welting on the chic Mylene sofa, for example, might have delighted Coco Chanel; set beside the stunning, Brutalist-inspired Bretagne dining table made of cast aluminum and a high-gloss, milky-white resin, its story deepens. Mylene’s sleek piping and the elegant boucle would fit right into a formal French dining room, yet it mixes easily with the industrial, monumental Bretagne.
Claude Marble and Oak Wood Bar Cabinet, goop x CB2, $2,999; Nadine Faux Mohair Accent Chair, goop x CB2, $1,499
One of Gwyneth’s favorite things in her Montecito home is a stunning bar in the living room; it inspired the Claude Bar, which combines American oak and white Dover marble with an unlacquered brass base and hardware. Beside it, the Nadine chair in faux mohair made with custom wool-silk, solid Italian Arabescato marble, and unlacquered brass is a feminine riff on the traditional club chair.
Cremieux White Ceramic Dinnerware, goop x CB2, $15.95-$69.95; Noemie Etched Double Old Fashioned Glass, goop x CB2, $24.95; Regine Olive Glass Vase, goop x CB2, $149
The focus on entertaining is intentional, and it extends to a spectacular tabletop collection. Finished by hand in Portugal, the incredibly thin, raised-edge Cremieux dinnerware was inspired by the artisanal ceramics found in Provence. Each piece is dipped in a thin black engobe for a greater depth of color, then fired again with a glossy white glaze, giving the finish a rich, hazy undertone. “I’m obsessed with the platters especially,” says Gwyneth. “You just want to collect them.” Etched glasses, unlacquered brass candlesticks, and handblown, ombre glass vases inspired by mid century Murano pieces round out the offering, some of which is available to order from goop as well as CB2.
Augustine 3-Bulb Glass Chandelier, goop x CB2, $349; Benedicte White And Black Stripe Marble Wall Sconce, goop x CB2, $449
Gwyneth’s penchant for inventive, high-design lighting adds a deeply original dimension to the collection. Inspired by bespoke lighting installations, there are multi-pendant, milk glass globes suspended hook by hook, creating a striking composition with polished unlacquered brass elements. In another design—this one a nod to the classic Breton stripe t-shirt—a Spanish alabaster sconce is striped with Marquina black marble.
The juxtaposition of goop’s feminine edge with industrial elements links the collection together; a level detailing typically limited to design showrooms creates layers of soul and depth. It’s all very goop: “The idea is to bring beauty into all aspects of our consumers’ lives,” says Gwyenth.
