Dan Flavin Art Institute
23 Corwith Ave., Bridgehampton
Dan Flavin was a mainstay of the community of artists that flocked to the Hamptons in the summers, and so it's fitting that there's a space here devoted to his works. This renovated firehouse (which has been stewarded by the Dia Art Foundation for its entire existence) has a permanent exhibition of Flavin's fluorescent light works on the top floor and a space for temporary exhibitions on the first floor.
Silas Marder (Closed)
120 Snake Hollow Rd., Bridgehampton
Silas Marder Gallery (located in an open-air and still-very-raw-wood barn) projects movies for all comers on Friday nights in a series called, appropriately, "Films on the Haywall." Curator Tucker Marder’s taste is eclectic but spot-on, as he plays everything from The Muppet Movie to Grizzly Man to Cool Hand Luke. Get there early enough to see the exhibition of Ryan McGinness’s sculptures and paintings, inspired by surf and skate culture.
