Built in 1868 as a bed and breakfast, this two-story townhouse, just two hours north of New York City, was revamped back in 2015 but still retains plenty of its early charm. (A two-lane bowling alley with original pins from the 1950s and tiny cinema with seats from Radio City Music Hall, included.) The fourteen bedrooms, set across three buildings on the property, are light-filled and lived-in—there are plenty of tasteful antiques, plus modern conveniences like Sferra towels and bathrobes, Malin and Goetz products, and crisp linens. In the mornings, breakfast is served in the bar room and features a mix of local and seasonal Sullivan County produce you can take at your leisure at the communal table (think: pistachio and cranberry granola, farm-fresh boiled eggs, tea cakes, fresh grapefruit). While Sullivan County truly shines in the fall, with ample opportunities for, say, scenic drives, bike rides, and apple-picking, North Branch also hosts culinary-themed weekends throughout the year, which includes a Saturday afternoon cooking class.
