Mark Hochburg, D.M.D.
192 E. 75th St., Upper East Side
Dr. Hochberg has made what kids dread the most an outing they look forward to. It all begins in the lobby: Kids can play in an arcade full of games while they wait. Somehow, Dr. Hochberg makes the appointment that follows as painless as possible.

Just Salad
1471 3rd Ave., Upper East Side
Just Salad was an early adopter of the fast casual dining option, and they now have locations in practically every New York neighborhood. While they have some great existing menu options (including a few rotating seasonal choices), the main move here is to create your own salad and have it chopped. The ingredients are always really fresh, as they source many from within 350 miles of the restaurant at New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Vermont farms, prioritizing organic and non-GMO foods.

Just Salad was an early adopter of the fast casual dining option, and they now have locations in practically every New York neighborhood. While they have some great existing menu options (including a few rotating seasonal choices), the main move here is to create your own salad and have it chopped. The ingredients are always really fresh, as they source them from within 350 miles of the restaurant at New York, New Jersey, and Vermont farms; everything is organic and exclusively non-GMO. Other locations: Flatiron, Fashion District, Financial District (on Broad St., Gold St., and Broadway), 30 Rock, Murray Hill, Chelsea (there's one on 8th Avenue and one on 6th Avenue), World Wide Plaza, Lexington, Park Slope, Downtown, Upper East Side (on 3rd Avenue and also on 1st Avenue), Hudson Square, Downtown Brooklyn, Macy’s Herald Square, Upper West Side, and the Woolworth Building.
Forty Carrots
Bloomingdales, 1000 3rd Ave., Upper East Side
Hidden on the seventh floor of Bloomingdales, back in the bedding department, Forty Carrots is still serving the best frozen yogurt in the city. An early pioneer of the fro-yo movement (it opened back in the ‘80s), they have all the classic toppings, from gummy bears to Butterfingers, and you can ask for more than one flavor swirled.
J.G. Melon
1291 3rd Ave., Upper East Side
Kitschy, often crowded, and rowdy on any night of the week, this 1970s bar makes a great, laid-back stop in the otherwise pretty upscale Upper East Side. We go for their excellent Bloody Mary’s and their famous, oft-lauded burgers served from lunch until late into the night. (There's now a second location in Greenwich Village.)
Daniel
60 E. 65th St., Upper East Side
It doesn't get much better than Daniel when it comes to haute cuisine (and destinations for special occasions). From the exceptional French prix-fixe menu to the flawless service and elegant jacket-only dining room, it's a one-of-a-kind experience. For a slightly more casual (and reasonably priced) a la carte dining experience, head to the lounge. And for a special event, book their private Bellecour Room, which has windows facing 65th Street—a rarity for event rooms in the city.
Total Skin
119 E. 83rd St., Upper East Side
Friends rave about Angella Kulangi and her results-oriented facials, as she takes everything—diet, exercise, water quality, and current skincare regime into account when she's evaluating skin. She also custom-blends products according to the time of year. Apparently, it's magic.
Suvara
Louise O’Connor Salon & Spa, 33 E. 61st St., 3rd Fl., Upper East Side
While you can find the Suvara formula at various spray tan spots around the country, founder Anna Stankiewicz is the woman to see, and she works out of the Louise O'Connor salon on the Upper East Side. (She also does house calls all over the city.) In addition to giving a radiant glow, she's known for her slimming body contour effects and her Skin Rescue Therapy, an all-natural vitamin spray.
Serge Normant at John Frieda
30 E. 76th St., Upper East Side
Serge Normant is one of the most talented stylists on the planet, and while it’s possible to get an appointment with him here, his co-workers are no slouches. If they’re not already booked on magazine photoshoots or fashion shows, they’re here giving outstanding cuts, color, extensions, and (formaldehyde-free) keratin and frizz-taming treatments. The spaces—there’s also a Chelsea location—are gorgeous, with details like glittery chandeliers, plush love seats, and atmospheric potted plants punctuating breezy, loft-like interiors.
