Interlochen Center for the Arts
4000 Hwy. M-137, Interlochen
Run by the Interlochen Center for the Arts—which is set on 1,200 acres of land between two lakes in northwest Michigan—this is a camp for kids who have an unabiding passion for the arts. Campers choose a program to attend: music, theater, motion picture, visual arts, dance, creative writing, or general arts, many of which require portfolios/auditions. The music and art classes here are the real deal, but during the times in between, campers can enjoy the expansive campus, the lakes, and rec activities. And in the evenings, there are a host of student, faculty, and guest artist concerts to attend; there's also simply "cabin night" to look forward to once a week with friends. Depending on the specific program your child is interested in, sessions are between one and six weeks long for grades three through twelve.
