4960 Rue Sherbrooke O, Westmount
One of the most compelling elements of WANT is its meticulous inventory. This is one of those stores you can count on to stock the basics: that classic blazer, go-to work skirt, or LBD you’ll wear for years. Pieces by Jil Sander, Junya Watanabe, and Acne share shelf space with the boutique’s own WANT Les Essential handbags and Skultuna candle holders. The apothecary is pristine and stocked with Byredo perfumes and Grown Alchemist skincare. And just like the items for sale, the interior design is classic and thoroughly considered. There are also locations in Toronto and Vancouver.
152 Ave. Laurier O, Mile End
This kitchen emporium and boutique boasts impeccable design and an excellent assortment of high-end kitchen tools. Here you’ll find open shelves displaying Mauviel pans, Le Creuset Dutch ovens, and hand-carved artisan cutting boards next to Maison Milan aprons and Global knives. The owners, a married couple with a true penchant for global cuisine, also host workshops with some of Montreal's best chefs, as well as gourmet trips—tailored culinary retreats to various cities around the world.
395 Rue Notre-Dame O, Old Montreal
Though it's primarily a guy's shop, there’s a surprising amount at Rooney that women will want to co-opt for themselves. Many of the obscure Japanese and European lines (Our Legacy, La Paz) can be easily sized down. Plus, there’s a kickass home and gifts section.
418 Rue St. Sulpice, Old Montreal
Sure, there’s the beloved, only-in-Canada department store empire Holt Renfrew, but Montreal is also home to a five-story, David Chipperfield–designed brick-and-mortar store of one of our favorite online sites, SSENSE. It offers an encyclopedic array of brands, from Balmain to Charlotte Olympia to Diemme.
