Space Camp
One Tranquility Base, Huntsville
Founded in the early ’80s, Space Camp was the vision of a German-born rocket scientist named Dr. Wernher von Braun, who was the first director of NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama. Von Braun wanted there to be an experience available to young people who were intrigued by the universe, which is exactly what Space Camp provides through various programs for kids ages nine to eighteen. The accommodations are by no means luxe—home base is the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Alabama—but the point is sort of that you're living like an astronaut, and for some kids, this is perfect.
