Our honeymoon—like all honeymoons—was not for everyone. It was for us, who love hiking and camping (but who love a little comfort, too). We chose Under Canvas Zion in southwestern Utah, a resort dotted with luxe cream-colored tents decorated in a stripped-down modern style, surrounded by sandstone cliffs and wide-open desert skies and close to the spectacular Zion trails, where we hiked every day.

The locally sourced food was delicious—get the fresh-caught trout for dinner, and don’t miss the breakfast burritos—especially when eaten alfresco in front of the fire (there’s a cool tent you can eat in, too). The canvas tents themselves were cushy, with sleek bathrooms and cozy beds.

(Note: If you want even more-glam glamping, the company’s new brand, ULUM, in Moab adds rain showers, electricity, a pool, and Wi-Fi to the experience.)

The sun is scorching during the day and the temperatures really plummet at night, so pack strategically: Beyond the obvious potential for sunburn, your hair and skin get dry quickly. I brought ultramoisturizing, nourishing creams; lots of sunscreen; and every tool in my kit to keep my hair sleek and knot-free. Here, the streamlined routine that left my skin dewy and my hair shiny—without a lot of fuss.

Slather on Moisture at Night

Returning in the late afternoon elated and exhausted from a day of hiking through Zion, I found my skin was always ready for some TLC. Tip: When you emerge from the shower, pull up a chair and sit next to your campfire—to stay warm as you smooth on your creams and lotions.

If you can, book the Stargazer Tent when it’s not a full moon so you can see all the stars at their brightest. Searching for shooting stars while lying in bed is the most romantic way to end the night.
