A Beauty Editor’s Essentials for a Glamping Honeymoon near Zion National Park

Our honeymoon—like all honeymoons—was not for everyone. It was for us, who love hiking and camping (but who love a little comfort, too). We chose Under Canvas Zion in southwestern Utah, a resort dotted with luxe cream-colored tents decorated in a stripped-down modern style, surrounded by sandstone cliffs and wide-open desert skies and close to the spectacular Zion trails, where we hiked every day.

The locally sourced food was delicious—get the fresh-caught trout for dinner, and don’t miss the breakfast burritos—especially when eaten alfresco in front of the fire (there’s a cool tent you can eat in, too). The canvas tents themselves were cushy, with sleek bathrooms and cozy beds.

(Note: If you want even more-glam glamping, the company’s new brand, ULUM, in Moab adds rain showers, electricity, a pool, and Wi-Fi to the experience.)

The sun is scorching during the day and the temperatures really plummet at night, so pack strategically: Beyond the obvious potential for sunburn, your hair and skin get dry quickly. I brought ultramoisturizing, nourishing creams; lots of sunscreen; and every tool in my kit to keep my hair sleek and knot-free. Here, the streamlined routine that left my skin dewy and my hair shiny—without a lot of fuss.

Brighten and Protect in the Morning

Your honeymoon is not the time to spend tons of time getting ready in the bathroom, so I went for this quick routine, then slathered on sunscreen, enjoying the view before hitting the hiking trails.

  1. Ursa Major
    Travel-Size Fantastic Face Wash
    goop, $15
This gentle foaming gel cleanser smells of cedar, spearmint, and vetiver; cleanses deeply; and leaves my skin so soft.
  2. Vintner's Daughter
    Active Treatment Essence
    goop, $225
My must-have for dewy, bouncy skin is made with vitamin C, gentle exfoliants, and hydrating botanicals. I spritz it on after cleansing and press all the goodness into my skin. It’s like a five-second spa treatment.
  3. goop Beauty
    All-in-One Super Nutrient Face Oil
    goop, $98/$89 with subscription
The best oil—a few drops and my skin is flooded with nourishment and hydration. Plus, I love the glow.
  1. Iris&Romeo
    Weekend Skin SPF 50 + Vitamin C + Glow
    goop, $50
This tinted SPF 50 protects skin and blurs imperfections. I smooth it onto my skin for a luminous, flawless look in seconds.
  2. Unsun
Hydrating Full Coverage Body Lotion SPF 30
    goop, $32
This unscented cream blends effortlessly into skin, delivering UV protection as well as an extra boost of moisture.

Slather on Moisture at Night

Returning in the late afternoon elated and exhausted from a day of hiking through Zion, I found my skin was always ready for some TLC. Tip: When you emerge from the shower, pull up a chair and sit next to your campfire—to stay warm as you smooth on your creams and lotions.

If you can, book the Stargazer Tent when it’s not a full moon so you can see all the stars at their brightest. Searching for shooting stars while lying in bed is the most romantic way to end the night.

  1. KORA Organics
    Turmeric Glow Moisturizer
    goop, $64
This rich golden cream sinks right in to soothe and coddle skin in moisture.
  2. Sangre de Fruta
Botanical Body Cream: Jasmine de Nuit
    goop, $58
This ultrahydrating whipped butter smells of jasmine and sandalwood, and the subtle, sexy scent lingers.
  3. ILIA
    Lip Wrap Overnight Treatment Mask
    goop, $26
Apply this lip mask right before you drift off to sleep. It’s so nourishing—you’ll wake up with petal-soft lips. (I used this during the day, too.)

Keep Your Hair in Shape

Knit hats, sun hats, wind, and constantly taking layers on and off would usually leave my hair a tangled mess. These essentials kept my hair shiny and bouncy throughout the entire trip.

  1. Rahua
    Hydration Travel Duo
    goop, $19
This ultramoisturizing set is perfect for a weekend getaway. It nourishes hair and boosts shine for the best hair days no matter where you are. Bonus: You can now get the shampoo and conditioner in gigantic pump bottles.
  2. La Bonne Brosse
N.03 The Essential Soft Hair Brush
    goop, $158
This brush works like magic. It easily detangles without tugging or pulling and leaves your hair shiny and smooth.
  3. Rahua
Rahua Hydration Detangler + UV Barrier Travel Size
    goop, $12
Spray this light-as-air treatment through your hair after you shower. Once it’s dry, your hair feels silky-soft and bouncy.
  4. Slip
    Silk Scrunchies - Small
    goop, $39
These silk hair ties are fantastic. They’re gentle on hair—they seem to actively repel tangles—and keep your hair in place. I put my hair into a braid (or two) for the day, and in the evenings before dinner, I took out the braids for laid-back, tousled waves.
