My Morning Routine
Fresh-Air Meditation, Vitamin C, and a Little At-Home Laser to Start the Day

Before Rana Good was a travel journalist and the founder of the digital magazine Naïra, she worked in advertising—where she found herself disappointed by the lack of women of color in the industry. “Diversity felt like an afterthought,” she says.
Good left her job and went back to school for journalism, pivoting to a career as a travel writer and SEO specialist and eventually launching Naïra, a digital beauty, lifestyle, and travel publication. “My favorite part is shining a light on incredible women of color and helping change the narrative around diversity,” she says. “I work with amazing writers all over the world, from all different backgrounds.”
A focused morning of boosting her skin, meditating, and taking a relaxing shower gets her ready for the day. “I take it easy and clear my head in the mornings,” says Good. “It helps me be more productive throughout the day.”
7 a.m.
I give myself a few minutes to feel fully awake before I get out of bed. I tiptoe out of bed if my husband is still asleep.
7:10 a.m.
I brush my teeth and dab on a little lip balm after. I’m the queen of lip balms and have tried so many—but I love this one. It really moisturizes, and the packaging is so chic.
7:15 a.m.
As I drink water, I check my phone. I try to limit it to 15 minutes, but it’s hard: My friends in Europe (I lived in Switzerland until I was 18) have been active for hours on our group chat. I get sidetracked easily catching up with them.
7:30 a.m.
I open the window to get some fresh air in, then do some standing stretches before meditating. I love the Manjit app. I’ve been meditating off and on for the past three years, and I’m trying to be more consistent. I really notice a difference in my focus and mood when I meditate.
8 a.m.
I love a seriously luxurious shower routine. I start by dry brushing my body first—so good. Once I’m in the shower, I lather up with Seed to Skin’s shower oil. I’ve been to the Borgo Santo Pietro spa in Tuscany, where the brand was founded, and it’s my favorite spa ever. I love that I can bring a bit of that spa home. I wash my hair with a pump of Rahua’s hydration shampoo; it gives me the best shine and leaves my hair soft and silky. Before I hop out, I switch the water from hot to cold—it’s so invigorating.
One of my most satisfying postshower rituals is massaging this body oil on all over. I love anything rose scented, and this one smells divine and feels amazing on my skin.
8:20 a.m.
I double cleanse at night but sometimes need more in the morning: I use the Outset cleanser to wipe away any leftover mascara or makeup from the day before, then spritz on Tower 28 spray to refresh and soothe my skin.
8:30 a.m.
Vitamin C, moisturizer, and sunscreen are nonnegotiables for me every day. I love the goop vitamin C serum: You activate it by combining the two parts, so it feels very scientific. I love how powerful it is. It makes such a difference in my skin. I follow it with this rich cream to seal in all the moisture.
I’m obsessed with the LYMA laser. Usually I try to use it before I go to bed, but if I forget, I squeeze it in after I apply my moisturizer.
8:50 a.m.
If I’m speaking to clients or doing anything on-camera for social media, I do easy no-makeup makeup. First comes tinted mineral sunscreen from Tower 28 to smooth, blur blemishes, and leave my skin looking dewy and healthy. I love it. I add ILIA mascara, a flush on my cheeks, and goop lip balm with Tower 28’s lip gloss layered on top.
I wear my hair naturally curly or blown out, depending on the weather and my mood. If I’m wearing my hair curly, I use a light curl cream to define each curl. If my hair is blown out, I use a little serum from Ranavat on the ends to smooth frizz and hydrate.
9:15 a.m.
My husband makes me coffee, and I check my emails and create a to-do list of my tasks for the day, hour by hour, so I have a clear picture of my priorities. Then it’s off to the races.
