A Mini Breakout Routine, Mascara, and Serious Hand Sanitizer
Katie Sturino founder of Megababe, beauty and style influencer, and body positivity advocate
In early March, I left my one-bedroom New York City apartment for rural Maine. We made quite a “quaranteam”— myself; my husband, John; and our three dogs: In classic anxious NYC haste, we packed quickly, left quickly, and drove quickly (but responsibly!). We had grabbed our laptops, some groceries, and little else. When we arrived and settled into our indefinitely temporary home and office, I wondered, What the eff did I pack? Only three pairs of underwear, for starters. And Crocs. But as things settled down, I discovered I had both the essentials and some great not-exactly essentials, too. Most important, I’d brought my new Megababe botanical hand sanitizer, which we launched in January. It’s great—it smells fresh and citrusy, and it’s made with 62 percent plant-based alcohol, so it’s effective. Plus, it moisturizes with marula and sweet almond oils, and the bottle is cute. Even so, we never could have anticipated the increased demand for it, but luckily, we’re back in stock and keeping up!
Glowy Skin for Work
My workday is still busy with calls, meetings, podcast recordings, and shoots (thank you, Instagram Husband). Since I’m still regularly putting myself on the internet, skin care and makeup are still important. I’ve definitely broken out a little due to stress, so I wash with my G.Tox foaming cleanser and am also loving this Tata Harper mask that I’ve been seeing all over the internet. It’s a mini routine that really helps balance out my skin.

I’m all about putting my confidence on first, before the Zoom call or the photo shoot or whatever it is I’m doing—it really boosts my morale.
Little Comforts for Workouts
I’m finding more time to work out, which is a big plus. I sweat (a lot), so I apply some Thigh Rescue and Bust Dust first and then turn on a good workout in the morning for thirty minutes. This is an important part of my quarantine routine because, in the wise words of Elle Woods, “Endorphins make you happy.” And who doesn’t need a little happy right now?
What I’m Really Missing and
What I Thankfully Remembered
I love to get manicures at tenoverten in New York with nail art of my dogs or SpongeBob, but…not happening right now, of course. So I’m letting my nails breathe and using the tenoverten Celery Oil to moisturize my nails and cuticles and keep them healthy.
I really miss my weighted blanket, which is sitting at home. I’m happy I brought my silk scrunchies, but they just make me wish I’d packed my Shhhowercap, too.

More Coping Strategies Getting Me Through
I’ve been trying to focus on mental wellness, too. I’m rereading Gabby Bernstein’s The Universe Has Your Back and journaling every other day. Not even a quarantine can push me to want to cook, but I’m lucky to have a partner who does. And we’ve been watching nostalgic classics, like Murder She Wrote—it’s charming and set in Maine (but we all know it was shot in California).
