Three goop staffers—each with their own look and routine—tried the new clean treatment-serum-meets-mascara. (Spoiler alert: They fell hard for it.) Blackest-black and gorgeously defining, one coat takes you from bleary to wide-awake; layer on another one (or two) and you’re red-carpet-ready, says Gwyneth. And while it looks impressive, the mascara also nourishes your lashes and supports their growth. A patented biotin-peptide complex conditions lashes, and a microalgae that’s clinically proven to enhance lash density boosts fullness.

The results are hard not to obsess over, our testers say. Here, how the mascara works (easily) in each of their summer routines, plus all their tips and tricks.

My Review:

Mascara is the one product I can’t live without, and I’m extra particular about it. This one checks all the boxes with its inky-black shade and tapered brush that seamlessly coats every lash and instantly wakes up my face. Not to mention the formula’s bonus conditioning benefits.

My Best Trick:

I curl my lashes and comb them with a lash comb before I put on one layer of mascara. I add a second coat when I want a fuller look.

My Makeup Routine:

I like to look like myself—summer, especially, is for freckles—but welcome little touches for glow and polish. I love how the mineral sunscreen from Saint Jane blends right in and blurs my pores. When I want light coverage, I use this tinted sunscreen-foundation from Tower 28. I brush up my brows with gel from Kosas: Just a few flicks fills in the gaps and somehow sculpts my whole face. I moisturize my lips with one of the many balms or glosses that live in my bag—I rotate between the Chill and Cashew shades of Tower 28’s jelly gloss and the clear lip balm from goop, which might be my absolute favorite. I keep one on my desk, on my nightstand, in my car…

How I Take It Off:

The goop cleansing balm gets everything off (sunscreen and makeup), and I love the way its texture changes from a thick balm to a milk—so satisfying at the end of the day. When my skin needs exfoliation, I use the collagen cleanser from Alpyn. It’s whipped and creamy, and its gentle exfoliating beads leave my skin super soft and hydrated. Sometimes I leave it on for a few minutes to feel really refreshed. I remove my makeup with the wipes from Honest Beauty when I’m feeling lazy.

My Review:

As a recovering lash-extension addict, I’m always searching for products that will give me a va-va-voom look without the potential for long-term damage. This new mascara has really transformed my fairly sparse, annoyingly straight lashes into full, fluttery magic.

My Best Trick:

I wiggle the brush at the root—where I want the most volume—then swipe up lightly through the ends of my lashes for a naturally defined look.

My Makeup Routine:

I fill in my brows, dab on some Saie Dew Blush in Spicy (a brightening burnt red), and add the tiniest amount of this incredible powder from Westman Atelier—only in the areas where I tend to get shiny, like the sides of my nose and on my chin.

How I Take It Off:

Micellar water—this one is a rush of moisture and just so easy and pretty and mess-free. I saturate a cotton pad, hold it over my eye for a few seconds, and gently sweep the mascara off. Then I just wash my face as usual with this cream from Tata Harper. I love how the plant-based microbeads gently smooth away dirt, makeup, and the day.

My Review:

Over the past couple of years, I’ve transitioned to clean makeup and found brands I truly love (shout-out to working at goop). Getting to try this mascara early was so fun—and it’s a real winner. It glides right on, never clumps, and gives me a fresh, wide-awake look whether I’m dressing up for a wedding (as I was in this picture) or going in to the office.

My Best Trick:

One of our associate directors of beauty product development, Kate Vaught, convinced me to always curl my lashes before applying mascara—I do notice a more lifted look.

My Makeup Routine:

I live by the beach and love a little color to enhance my natural look. When I have a nice glow going, I can get away with being pretty easy and undone. My routine always involves a great moisturizer, like Living Libations Best Skin Ever Face Oil. I wear mineral sunscreen every day—I love this one, which has a slight shine and tint, so it can double as highlighter. Then I add a sun-kissed touch: sheer blush on the apples of my cheeks.

How I Take It Off:

The goop cleansing balm takes off all my makeup and sunscreen, leaving my skin extra soft. When I need a detox, I use Microderm to smooth away all the leftover residue. I always have it in my bathroom cabinet (my boyfriend steals it, too).
