Sheer Summer Color for a Glowy
No-Makeup Look
She’s a famous makeup artist and beauty founder who spends most of her days in her new studios at FYFE—her nothing-like-it app where you can watch the best how-to videos from top makeup artists and stylists all over the world—but some of Jillian Dempsey’s bestselling products are actually skin care. “Any makeup artist knows that prepping the skin is absolutely essential,” she says. “That’s why our red-carpet kits are full of skin secrets.” For summer, Dempsey’s loving a minimal makeup look with an emphasis on sheer pigments and gorgeous skin. “Dab on the color even before you start with foundation or concealer,” she says. “You may find you need a lot less or don’t need any. That bare-skin-with-a-bit-of-color look just feels like summer to me.” Dempsey’s step-by-step guide to the most effortless no-makeup makeup look begins with gorgeous skin; bright, hydrated eyes; and an allover dewy sheen.
Glowy, Lifted, Plumped-Up Skin
1
Start with Serum
Dempsey likes to start with a lightweight vitamin C serum on freshly washed skin. “Wait a few minutes for it to absorb,” she says.
2
Depuff and Revive with Eye Masks
These cooling, smoothing, depuffing, ultrahydrating prebiotic eye sheet masks wake your whole face right up. “Stick one under each eye,” says Dempsey. “Make sure to remove the protective liners—there’s one on each side of the mask—so you get to the actual mask in the center,” says Dempsey.
3
Layer on Glowy Moisture
“I love how hydrating this new moisturizer is,” says Dempsey. “It’s made with glow-inducing ingredients like vitamin C. It’s the latest addition to my skin-care routine, and it’s just the best under makeup, too. A few moisturizing drops of GOOPGENES face oil comes next. “Make sure your skin is evenly covered,” she says. “Having a layer of moisturizer or oil (or both, as I like to do) creates good slip for skin for the next step, the vibrating roller. If your skin’s too dry, the bar tugs and doesn’t smooth enough to give you maximum benefits.”
4
Relax, Sculpt, and Depuff (Again)
“Now use the gold sculpting bar to smooth your face,” says Dempsey. “Try to spend three to five minutes on each side of your face. Treat it like a sculpting tool, smoothing out and contouring the areas in need. Target your under-eyes—you can roll right over the masks and the vibrations will help push the ingredients into your skin. Then focus on the sides of your mouth, moving upward toward your hairline. If there’s time, I like to spend a couple minutes on the neck. And however long you do it, just enjoy: It’s completely addictive and relaxing, too, so your face glows with radiance from the gentle stimulation.”
5
Give Eyes Extra Oomph
“After ten to twelve minutes, remove the eye masks and follow with eye cream,” says Dempsey. “Use your fingers to massage everything in well. This makes that whole area pop.”
6
Seal Everything In for Ultimate Glow
“Massage a little extra Glow Lotion over your face and neck, then finish with a hydrating mist over your entire face and neck, and you’re ready for color,” she says.
Play Up Great Skin with
Strategic Touches of Color
“I love translucent sheer tones on the eyes with brighter shades on cheeks,” says Dempsey. “Try applying just the color and using less (or no) foundation: You can always go back in and touch up any areas in need. There are no rules in terms of adding on.”
1
A Sheer Hint of Color for Eyes
“My lid tint in Shell is the perfect shimmering pearl shade for summer,” says Dempsey. “Wear it alone on your lids or cheekbones, the Cupid’s bow, décolletage, and even the tops of the shoulders for a bounce of the prettiest highlight. I like to blend it with a little Glow Lotion or the GOOPGENES face cream.”
2
Warm Up Your Cheeks
“Sunny is a nude that’s the absolute best color for giving your skin a kiss of warmth,” says Dempsey. “Smile first, dab on the apples of your cheeks, then use your fingers to blend out in a circular motion. It’s this great wash of color that lets freckles live, too.”
3
Inky Dark Lashes
“I love defined, healthy lashes,” says Dempsey.
4
Healthy, Moisturized Lips
“I like a totally natural lip with this look, and I love the goop lip balm—it’s got the best texture and a little sheen,” says Dempsey.
