Helping a “Spiritual Sponge” Get
Her Sleep Back on Track
You can’t really blame the spirits that purportedly trail after our charming, hilarious, and beautiful VP of communications, Noora Raj Brown—we all want to hang out with her, too. Beyond the predictable stresses of maintaining one of the faster-paced, peripatetic schedules in our company—a number of intuitives over the years have told her that the energy she attracts from others is part of what’s disturbing her sleep.
“I’m a terrible sleeper,” laughs Raj Brown. “I always have been: I wake up at about 3 a.m. and get back to sleep at about 5 a.m. It’s no good! Sometimes I do work when I wake up—that of course makes it harder to get back to sleep.”
Intuitives always bring up the energy-sapping side of her magnetism; and in a recent product development meeting, goop’s new fashion SVP Shaun Kearney (also an intuitive) called this out unbidden: “You have trouble sleeping, don’t you?” he said. “You’re a spiritual sponge.”
Whatever the reason, Raj Brown started taking some steps toward soothing her spirit (and perhaps others’) before bed. In her West Village apartment, Raj Brown fashioned a new routine: “Every night, I’ve been filling up my tub with hot water, dumping in a full cup of our new (I got a few advance samples) G.Nite bath soak, then lighting a goop shiso candle—it has frankincense in it, which is supposed to be calming. I pour myself a Som (I love the taste), put it next to the tub and I sip and soak for at least 20 minutes.”

The results have been unequivocal: No waking up at 3 a.m. “I can’t believe it, but I’m sleeping through the night,” she says. “The combination really works for me.” As for any spirits that might be hanging around: “They seem soothed!” she laughs. “Just like me!”
Not only does she feel better, she says her skin has improved, too: “I attribute some of that to Vintner’s Daughter, morning and night—at night I slather Blue Cocoon on over it, too—but since I’ve actually started sleeping, my skin is happier.”
Her upcoming move from NYC to goop HQ in LA might sound disruptive and stressful, but Raj Brown is looking at it as an opportunity—for a better tub. “I told my husband the tub is kind of everything,” she says. “I want one where people will say, ‘This tub is way too big for this house.’”
