Hollywood Bars & Nightlife
Bars & Nightlife neighborhood
1159 N. Western Ave., Hollywood
At this Cuban rum bar, you walk through a fake closet into a cool, bi-level speakeasy. Even if you wouldn't normally order it, rum is the best choice here as they have many small-batch, esoteric varities, which are great on their own or mixed into one of the very well-made cocktails (complete with hand-carved ice). Be warned that this is one of the few places in LA that's still cigar-friendly. There's great music that you'll want to move to, including salsa and live jazz.
Piano Bar (Closed)
6429 Selma Ave., Hollywood
This Hollywood bar always has some really solid acts lined up, usually one early in the evening then another one later on. It's relaxed and fun in here with no pretense, making it a great place to go for one drink or many.
1233 N. Vine St., Hollywood
You'll feel as though you've been transported to Savannah, GA, here, from the old-school fireplaces, to the porch, to the rickety screen door, which is a brilliant touch. The live music and epic Southern-themed cocktail menu make this a super fun—and different—night out in LA.
The Bar (Closed)
5851 Sunset Blvd., Hollywood
This good-looking but no-frills bar in Hollywood is perfect for nights when you want to drink, dance, and have a great time with friends. There's good music and friendly vibe: Just don't go expecting to have a conversation.
7617 Sunset Blvd., Hollywood
Despite being a gastro-pub, The Pikey does really great cocktails, in many different iterations. The dark-wood-heavy, British-inspired space is also home to great comfort food (the menu is by an ex-Spotted Pig chef): Don't miss the Vinegar Chicken and Chips.
