What You Should Do With Old Crayons

The idea behind Crayon Collection is hearteningly simple: Keep crayons (specifically those handed out at restaurants, which normally get trashed after one use) out of landfills and get them into the hands of kids that need them. The organization helps coordinate setting up collection boxes where gently used crayons can be dropped off and sorted. Then, they link donors with Title 1 and high poverty schools that need school supplies—their partnership with Head Start means that many of the crayons go to preschools in low-income neighborhoods. Considering that almost all public school teachers spend out-of-pocket money on school supplies, the impact of even a small donation can make a big difference. Putting together a collection box is very easy, and a great way to introduce little ones to philanthropy and giving. Order yours here.
