This is the kind of restaurant that’s hard to find even in Rome these days–open since the 1930s, it’s run by a husband and wife pair (Teresa handles the kitchen, while Mario is in charge of the front of house). Getting in is part of the fun: the family keeps the front door locked, so you’ll need to hit the buzzer to be let up (make sure to have a reservation, as they’ve been known to turn people away). The menu changes daily based on whatever Teresa’s making, but she relies on old-school dishes like polpette (meatballs) and homemade pasta, and if you show up on a Friday, definitely be prepared for fish.
